Eurorack Case Question

Not into the bottomless pit that is Eurorack personally, nor do I want to be, lol, but there’s a bit of Eurorack gear I’d like to buy and I was wondering about the case.

All I want is (two of) the module you see above. It says in the description that it’s “24HP”, so does that mean I need a case that is 48HP wide to house it? And if so, can anyone recommend a case that is exactly wide enough to house just two of those modules and nothing else?

I want to mount them both in the smallest case possible so that I can sit it on my desk between two Circuit Rhythms feeding through the EQ into each other.

If anyone could recommend either a ready made or self assemply kit of such description (one as cheap as possible), that would be great.

Cheers mate, is that the same electrical fitting though? I can’t see any of those plug-in connectors on the base like on the bigger cases.

They’re recessed in at the top. Also there’s no on/off switch, just plugged or unplugged

Before you do enter the bottemless pit and encounter the first problem with a 48Hp case for this purpose:

  • these modules have line level outputs that match Circuits inputs so ok till this point
  • you need to make sure that these module inputs can bring line level up to eurorack level (for which it is designed). You get 12db gain on the EQ, that probably brings you close but this is only one channel per module (mono).
take this in account when combining eurorack (or other modular stuff) into the audiopath.
You might end up needing one or two external instrument input modules🙉

hello!

Modulaire maritime produces pretty good cases to a decent price.

One metal case with USB and 9V DC (two price options):

One metal case with wood sides with only PSU:

It is a bit unclear how much of the 416/450 mA current you get with the USB cable so maybe stick with DC if you get that case. Two 305 require around 250 mA so you should be fine but maybe stick with the safe route, at least as my official recommendation.

Modulaire Maritime as a company seems to represent a curious blend of HiFi luxury and revolutionary socialism, reading on their website. I have two USB cases and I am very, very happy with them. The price is as fair!

They are regularly out of stock on things, so if you find it interesting you should probably get them in decent time from now. Both are available.

Thanks for the input and recommendations on this, however I’ve decided on a different solution.

I’ve decided to buy a MiniFreak. It has external input which can be routed through the internal effects and those effects can be stacked in series. There’s a three-band and even a parametric among them and all with high resolution control, so I’ve decided to sit a MiniFreak between the two Circuit Rhythms and use it as an EQ as well as a synth.

That aside, wow, the prices of Eurorack cases are insane for what they are. I feel like they should cost about thirty quid or something :open_mouth:

I definitely would not trust a 30 quid case with thousands worth of eurorack modules. Delivering clean, safe power to a whole case full of modules is well worth a few hundred quid. Even Behringer’s offerings are in that ballpark. Glad you found a solution though. The MiniFreak is a much more fun purchase!

indeed, you can easily find bare cases like that for $30 or less if you diy, but good power is king in euro

Oh I didn’t mean for something that would hold a full modular, I just meant the really small ones.
