Flagging request to make flaggers transparent

I remember thinking at the time how long it would take before we get another one of these discussions.

Obviously the guidelines need to be changed if you donā€™t agree with them

Hot takes and dumb shit. Gets flagged really easy.

My two cents.

I like it here. I think certain topics are just by design going to veer off on political tangents. Some music and gear related topics are inherently political. And thatā€™s fine.

Itā€™s also not necessarily what I come here for. And itā€™s not what the forum is really for at the end of the day. So I donā€™t think appeals to free speech or whatever make much sense in this context. Really they donā€™t make sense most of the time people online make them.

I think that the moderators and everyone participating generally does a good job balancing all that. So Iā€™m good with the flagging.

This place is nice. Letā€™s keep it that way.

gotta say I agree - and to be honest, I hadnā€™t seen that until now

if anyone thinks that is an appropriate, on-topic, constructive or plain inoffensive post then say now ā€¦ because that is exactly the kind of regrettable posting that creates drama - for no good

Itā€™s doubly disappointing because it shows the time-out the op was offered as an olive branch was not spent reflecting on why it was they backed themselves into a corner and wanted to close the account down

when people make such statements, it is going to solicit a response, and frankly itā€™s warranted - so I really donā€™t see that knowing who flagged you is in any way anything other than a shallow narrative to create a list of names that will be not be getting festive cards

itā€™s a call for disharmony - that strikes me as a prime post to flag and one that would merit understanding were it responded to (in lieu of a flag)

Thereā€™s no ambiguity in this matter, itā€™s a disingenuous grumble ā€¦ itā€™s pretty clear now, spread insensitive and offensive theories dragged from the pits of the internet and it wonā€™t end well ā€¦ so donā€™t do it, because weā€™ve established (that like politics etc etc) it wonā€™t end well - call it censorship if you want, call flaggers snowflakes or whatever, but youā€™re still in the wrong.

Can we get this over and done with soon, this is a waste of time

Iā€™ll be muting this topic now, nothing to add anyway for all the good it does (not) !

I think the combination of what the moderators do and the anonymous flag system works great.

From all internet discussion platforms out there I know, Elektronauts is by far the most:

  • Civil
  • On topic
  • Safe
  • Mature
  • Educational

And not to forget, fun and warm!

I firmly believe the anonymous flag system contributes by making this place a welcome place for all of us. And that is far more important than anything else.

If your posts do get flagged, try to analyze why. Most of the time your ego might be insulted, so this might be a very good opportunity to make your ego less important and take responsibility for your own actions.

Maybe you should change your tone and attitude, or should stay on topic. Learn from it and this place can stay this great source of knowledge, inspiration and fun as it is right now.

There a few people on here Iā€™ve seen make comments that rile me up deeply. Some of you would definitely not get on with me in person. Iā€™m hard work.

After trying to keep a list in mind of which avatars had briefly unsettled me, I realised I didnā€™t care that much. And I think most of the people who might be on such a list, if I could be bothered to keep it, have said some really useful and constructive or funny things in other threads. This is as it should be. We come together; share our similarities and acknowledge our differences in a way that allows us to continue to share the space comfortably. This models the Star Trek universe I want to live in.

This. The OP is regularly flagged for posting misinformation, conspiracy theories, drawing totally inappropriate comparisons and/or extremely hostile language and acts like there is some legitimate issue to be had with the moderation on this forum, a thing almost everyone else is on board with.

This thread can be closed anytime imo.

Iā€™ve been foruming for something like 24 years and this is the most civilized place Iā€™ve yet encountered. Which would indicate to me that the mods, admins, and the system in which they work are all doing a bang-up job. I feel lucky to be able to learn and participate.

Group hug yā€™all?

Agreed. I feel it is our collective responsibility to keep things civil. And that includes not escalating things (mutually) when thereā€™s someone disagreeing with you. Agree to disagree and thatā€™s that.

Love yā€™all.

Iā€™ve never flagged a comment. From my eye test, itā€™s obvious when a thread is going sideways and the writingā€™s on the wall that the flags will start flying.

I do, however, use this quite often.

I used the flag feature here, because of bad stuff I had to read. I was flagged for headless discussion and for being off topic. I think it is great how it is done, and using internet-discussion-platforms for over 25 years now, this is the most peaceful place I have ever been to, with a bunch of moderators that do their job quietly while not abusing power and still participate in any type of topic.
If you see yourself as a victim, you see yourself attack in nearly everything. Nothing that can be ā€œfixedā€ by changing stuff in a discussion board that no-one else wants to be changed.
If you read itā€¦ thanks Elektron for having this place and thanks Moderators for spending your free time and thank you most users for being such an awesome community!

The purpose of flagging is as the name suggest merely to call attention to a post for a moderator to make a judgment onā€¦.

Nothing more, nothing lessā€¦ā€¦

The moderators do a great job here of keeping it civil, so I respect their judgment ( and appreciate their efforts!)

if you believe someone is repeatedly abusing the system simply talk to the moderators - Iā€™m sure theyā€™ll be happy to look into the issue.

Of course, no one likes to be moderated, but as seen on some other sites - the alternative can be pretty unpleasantā€¦. and different users, of course, have different ideas on what ā€˜elektronautsā€™ focus is.

Funny thing, Iā€™m fairly new around here and this is the only the only forum whereat I have ever received a flag. It felt right because my flagged post was definitely off-topic. Iā€™ve got no beef with this system.

This is just objectively untrue though isnā€™t it? Communities amplify speech that is popular just as they sideline speech that isnā€™t ā€“ as befits the community. You donā€™t live in a state of free speech absolutism. You certainly donā€™t when chatting on here.

You have to play by the rules of the forum.

I find that itā€™s sometimes disappointingly flag-happy here too. But then I remember this is essentially an offshoot of a product website, not a town square. And I adjust my expectations.

Capture the Flag

i was flagged too, it was in the Trump-thread years agoā€¦ if i remember correctly, i felt threatened by someone and asked the person openly if this is the caseā€¦ the part of the thread was separated by the moderator then flagged and closed

maybe this was right

the other one was an expression about someone in the world ā€¦ it was, sorry i have to mention it, Silikon Pam - that was strange

Hm, I dunno. Iā€™ve decided that this is now a Nascar forum so Iā€™m going to post indiscriminately about Nascar. If you donā€™t like it then itā€™s actually your fault because you failed to defend your belief that we should talk about synths. You canā€™t silence my opinions about Nascar!!

:raised_hands:t4: You got me.

French Revolutionary !!! CONFIRMED !!!

Elektron need to release a new synth soon so we can all go back and argue about how amazing/terrible it is.

Anyway, time to mute.
