Hack: Controlling clock with turntable for manual beat-matching

I haven’t managed to test this out as don’t have a Traktor audio interface to hand, if anyone can test this or spot any errors in my instructions, please point them out!

Equipment needed:

1x Traktor Scratch system
1x Laptop
1x Expert Sleepers USAMO (or other similiar clock signal generator type device)
Hardware of choice with midi-input.

The USAMO converts an audio signal that is generated by a software instrument in your DAW. Usually you’d just feed that straight out from the DAW via a spare output, and it’d provide clock, playhead position, start position etc, for your hardware, jitter free.

Instead route the plugin to the main outputs in your DAW, (you’ll get a cacophony of bleeps and tones that are really harsh, so make sure your speakers are turned down) bounce it down, make sure the level is good but not clipping.

Load it onto your Traktor library, and make sure you match the BPM so it’s the same of the DAW speed.

Make sure the output of the Traktor scratch box is going into the USAMO box or you’ll destroy yours or your audiences ears.

That’s it! You should now be able to beat match your equipment with other records, synced or un-synced, could be really fun for adding your own layers of sequences over music. Imagine adding your own acid lead lines over techno, lots to play with!

Would love to hear from people who try this out
