I just got an AR mk2. What would be some good resources, video tutorials for operating my new piece of gear?

Hey there! quick question, is this your first Elektron machine? If yes, you can learn from videos of other Elektron devices because they have many things in common, like the sequencer, the menus and much more.
Of course I also recommend reading the manual, lots of useful things in there!

Hey Alechko,

I own a MachineDrum mk2 (no sampling🙁) so I’m somewhat familiar. I’ve only owned it for a few months. From what I’ve read the MD is fairly easy to pick up relative to the newer gear.
Prior to the ARmk2, I bought a Syntakt but returned it for the AR. I like the flow of using a drum kit, and the sampling is major bonus. It was open box so it was a killer deal.

I know enough to be dangerous I guess.

I would say my biggest struggle will be to create a plan of which Elektron unique workflows to learn after I am effective at writing some beats with the stock kits. Do I tackle sampling, parameter locks, scenes, etc.

makes sense for sure, I too was overwhelmed with the AR depth when I got it, so first thing I did was go over the factory patterns and play with each of their scenes and perf macros to get the idea what’s possible, there’s many factory patterns to play with / modify.
after that I opened a project and started building patterns with they synth engines only, just to get familiar with them.
after I’ve had a good idea of the synth engines I’ve started playing with samples, there’s not much factory samples so I just got many from what comes with Ableton, but you can use any pack or whatever to get oneshots/synths/single
cycle waves.

I’m still learning, there’s so much things here, it will take time to master the beast.

Conditional Breakbeats with rytm in 1 bar

Concept: The Elekton Sequencer which allow more variety in pattens beyond just percentages with the NGI, FST, PRE et al conditions. The basic idea is from a drum patten or score calculate percentages and combinations of hits then create a conitonally based 1 bar patten. The randomisation provide a quick way to create variations in the style of particular breakbeats. The aim is not to duplicate but to have a basis for variations. Pay the $15 for a month membership to Ask Video and do a proper tutorial. Easier than pulling bits from reviews and whatnot. Thavius Beck does a fine job at breaking down Elektron boxes. You’ll be up and running at an intermediate level in 2 hours.

Yeah. It helps that my music experience started by playing the drums. My tracks are definitely percussive heavy. Thus the interest in techno (Detroit)

I start with the Elektron Rytm QuickStart guide and videos online. I’m learning mine as well and it’s tons of fun. Loading samples is the tricky part right now for me before I dig into song mode.

The post from @Octagonist is great as a resource reference, bookmark that.

Beyond that, try to not get overwhelmed by the AR by learning everything it does… take different areas in bite size pieces and it’ll eventually all click together.
That ‘clicking’ point is worth the work.

The Preset project, and the patterns it contains are really good.
Duplicate/Save As a few times with the Presets project, and have fun…clear the patterns, use those kits, deconstruct, etc… that’ll give you the best working overview of the AR, and you’ll probably find yourself coming up with new ideas you like in no time.
