Help deciding best method to record

EDIT: I had written an elaborate confusing question here. So I’m re-phrasing.

I’m looking for the optimal way to record using overbridge.

I have a composition ready on two patterns. Everything programmed on the AR and A4. No midi sent from Live to AR/A4.

While vaguely jamming in the composition I am recording automation on the fly (whilst recording audio on all automated track for interesting bits to chop up later).

There does not seem to be a way to automate the muting of different tracks and I use these quite a bit while jamming this track in. No big deal I guess.

Anyway, I’m just eager to hear if people would like to share any interesting techniques on recording.

Thanks:)

Looking forward for answers on this topic,
although I don’t clearly understand what would you like to do with midi?

My method for now is to record seperate audio signals, one fx wet channel, than mix it in ableton…

Sorry for confusion. I find it hard to get my point across.

I understand how to record and mix tracks using OB.

Basically, I also record midi on the OB plugin (midi) track so while I’m adjusting something like a filter on the fly I can go back and fine tune that automation.

But the audio is already recorded so when I go back to tweak automation, I can’t automate audio which has already been recorded, obviously. So should I not record to audio any tracks I plan to automate until I am happy with my final tweaks?

Hope this makes more sense.

I think you answered yourself.

Of course you shoudn’t record audio until you are satisfied with your midi automations.

Like you said; first record midi autmation (while jamming?), than edit, and when you ready and satisfied with result, just record final audio version.

Oh, I know this.
I really can’t articulate what i mean. Sorry. I’m working on a track and I’ll get back and re-edit above once I know what I’m talking about.
Have not slept.
Thanks for your help:)
