Thanks man! I usually use sampled bass notes from my moog GM, and then play/sequence them in the AR using a midi keyboard.
Cool, thanks for sharing!
Great stuff @Sleepyhead I’ve been seeing your clips over the net and you convinced me that the rytm does hiphop just fine.
I just got mine, made a very Bass heavy trappy beat with my first kit. It will take some time to mentally switch from the digitakt (which I am not selling), really got used to the way u edit samples on it and surprisingly the second LFO.
Looks like you got of to a running start, sounds good!
It took me a while to get used to the AR as well. I even switched back and forth between the AR and DT for a while. The DT just seems to work so logically compared to the AR, everything is in the right place, and the 2 rows of 8 still make more sense to me.
But after a while the AR clicked with me completely. I guess it’s not a bigger DT, it’s something else entirely, and I slowly started to appreciate it for what it does. Now it’s my favorite machine. I’m sure you will love it after spending some time with it.
Things the DT does better:
- samplestart finetuning
- amp envelope retrig
- mixer page
- second lfo
- sidechain on the comp
things the AR does better:
- More tracks (still 8 poly, but the extra tracks are great)
- Songmode
- individual outs
- analog filters
- analog drive/distortion/compressor --> overall warmer sound
- scenes/performances
- FX track
- pads to play on
- internal synth engines
I just hope some of the DT’s functions get added to the AR in the next update…
Yeah I have the DT and AR now and decided to focus on just the AR for the time being to learn it.
the things the DT does better are VERY weird to me. I get the sample aspects, they have to keep their differences in that aspect in order to make sense. Same for the midi integration; if the DT was just an AR light they wouldn’t sell as well.
The AR envelope is an Analog quirk I’ve read. Encountered that difference last night and I was flabbergasted by it. My shaker just disappeared after 3 bars
In terms of the LFO and Mixer page… I can see them adding that in a firmware. I miss that second LFO a LOT actually, it made drum patterns so organic by having 2 different time’s on ie. AMP attack and decay.
In terms of sound the AR is a beast. Warm and punchy for sure. The pads I like as well, not as good as on my 100 bucks launchpad but they are nice and stiff. Scenes and Performances are feature I knew the least about but love the most. I’ve had the Octatrack for a good while and this is a good replacement. Especially when jamming. They’re surprisingly easy to program as well!
for the last month or so I used my Digitakt with a Nord Drum 3P which was a good combo as well, and I do really like the engines in the Nord. I could replicate TOMs from sample packs without knowing that much from sound design. The Analog synths in the AR are more limited in terms of sound design but that’s something I don’t mind for now; they sound good!
Never. U mean, somewhere for free?
Dope! Subscribed!
I never considered something like that haha, might drop a samplepack or something one day!
So I’m double posting (sorry, won’t make it a habit), but I wanted to contribute to this page. I recently bought and ARMK2 and I’m currently in a honeymoon period. Being a Digitakt user, I was a bit skeptical. But after a couple weeks of use, I’m really vibing with this machine. The sound quality, the pads and song mode are welcome features and really fit my style of creation. This is my first completed track. I’m using my 1010 blackbox for some longer samples, but it’s about 95% AR.
Sounds dope! Very full sound.
Nice! Is the little synth trill from an AR synth, or a sample?
Thank you! It just a little sample I made on my Mother 32 with an MF delay pedal, pitched up.
Thank you! I hope we keep this thread going. I love the theme.
Hey there. Here’s something new made just with the AR. I was hoping to use scenes to alter sample start points (i.e. Jerry Butler vocals), but I wound up doing plocks. I hope to get a little deeper with my understanding of the Scene and Performance features moving forward. Hope everyone is doing well out there.
Its not bad, but I would definitely alter the drums. They are too “mechanical”, if you know what I mean. Live recording the drums without quantising can go a long way.
I appreciate the feedback. Re: mechanical, I’m not sure I was going for a live vibe here. I agree, a few more changeups (or fills) would have given some more variety to the patterns. But I’m definitely not trying to hide the programed quality of the drums. In general, I was going for a groove that could stand a few bars on repeat.
I really like the groove of this. It feels like it’s stumbling. It’s got a cool soundtrack thing going on. The little solos are really cool too.
