How exactly does Track Key Scale work?

Might be a silly question, but I can’t understand how this is supposed to work.
Before someone say so, I did read the manual, but it’s not really clear.

Does trk key scale and key note only affect the sequencer?

If eg you set the track key scale to e minor, any notes triggered by the sequencer and arpeggiator are forced to a scale of e minor. That does not however work for the on board keyboard.
