How to free up memory

Could someone please explain to me how I can free up memory so I can load more samples on this thing? THANKS!

Unfortunately you’ll have to sit down and laboriously sort through all the samples you don’t use or don’t intend to use and delete them from the drive.

Go into the sample section and place a checkmark against each of the samples you want to delete then on the right side of the page select delete from the options… repeat… samples wiped.

It’s easier to do this on the Transfer app, you can easily select a list of samples.
Note that the Rytm doesn’t care where a sample is in its folder hierarchy, so you can reorganize samples you use then delete folders of unused samples.

Backup all your projects with Transfer before doing so, just in case.

If you can get Transfer to work with the Rytm. It doesn’t work with mine for some reason. it works with the DT but not the Rytm. It did initially but then it stopped, not sure why.

Make sure USB is set correctly.

It is set correctly but for some reason Transfer can only see the projects and the sounds but it can’t see the samples.

Which version of Transfer are you using?

Whatever the USB config and the PORT config, I can access, backup and delete Samples, Projects and Sounds.

I’m using the latest version. The weird thing is that it works with the Digitakt but not the Rytm.

Transfer v1.4.0.1?
And AR OS 1.61B?

Everyone else so far has commented on cleaning up the +Drive. I call that “storage” instead of “memory” (I grew up with floppy disks and when 4MB RAM was more than I could afford).

Anyway, if you want to free up RAM, rather than +Drive, here’s the steps:

Open the Project menu [:asterisk:], choose [Samples]

Tap [right arrow] to open the Sample actions menu

Choose [Select Unused]

Choose [Unload]

I’m using 1.61A… I thought he differences were so minor as to be not worth bothering with but I just upgraded and now it’s working. Thanks.

Wasn’t the difference that Transfer worked?

I think when it first came out I read a couple of complaints about some aspect not working so I didn’t bother with it. Also I didn’t really understand what what they meant for “support for transfer” since at the time it was already working with transfer so I stuck with my philosophy…“If it ain’t broke, don’t try and fix it”.

Fair. I’m similar. I updated to B when I eventually installed Transfer 1.4, weeks, or months after it was released.

really appreciate your illustrative response. but for some reason I still cant free up the memory. because when I try loading new samples, it keeps saying exceeded memory. my sample list is clear. projects are all blank. and no sounds on it. so what it going on here? Also, I cant delete the files when I try. it keeps saying error.

Can you give us some more detail about what you’re doing?

  • when you say “try loading new samples”… what are you doing?
  • when you say “Also, I cant delete the files when I try. it keeps saying error.”, what are you doing, and what is saying error? The AR, the Transfer app? Something else?
  • which model of AR do you have? Which version of the OS? Which version of Transfer app are you using?

I think my point is even if you do all that, there is still something in my analog Rytm MKII that taking up my memory and its really pissing me off cuz messing with my music flow…

i got the latest os. and latest transfer.

its really annoying. I just unloaded all my samples, but there are still samples and deleted it all in the unit. I dont freekin get it.

Maybe it’s stupid but did you reload the project, or turn the unit off ?
