HW DEALS : Hardware on Sale

Great deal. There’s probably a spec bump coming in a month or so, but I got one anyway since I couldn’t handle the dumb fan noise anymore from my 2019 i9 MBP. This machine is an absolute beast.

which one did you get?

I got the 14” with the 1TB SSD.

still no fan issues?

Not yet. The i9 would crank up just opening Ableton. Tonight I ran a heavy session and it was dead silent. Glorious.

you get the 8 or 16?

With the new m1 MacBook pros the fan never comes on, they are great. It actually got me to switch from pc to mac after a lifetime of being a pc user. No regrets, I’m never going back.

Sit yourselves down Elektronauts… the M1 macbooks don’t have cooling fans!

(Edit: Sorry turns out this is only true of the Macbook Air, not the Pro)

what do they have?

Mega efficiency and passive cooling

so the 14" doesn’t have anything noise wise to kick in when it overheats?

Sorry I might have lied! looks like the Pro has a single fan, but the Air doesn’t. Although I’ve also heard that they run silent no matter what they’re doing so I’m not sure when it actually needs to come on.

I have an M2 arriving shortly, my colleagues use M1’s.

I run Logic on an M1 Pro. This replaced my 9 year old MacBook Pro running Reaper.

Never heard a peep from the M1 no matter how hard I push it. I run some pretty heavy guitar amp simulators and I’ve never had to freeze tracks or bounce down when multitracking parts.

It’s amazing really - the leap they achieved with M1 generally is very impressive.

I love my MacBook Air so much. Said it before, but if I keep just one thing for making music, it’d be the Air. Everything else is for adding flavour.

The 14” pro starts at 16 and goes up from there. I went with 16.

I got a 16” MBP this summer and feel the same way… it hasn’t missed a beat and it’s a joy to work on.
