I need an alternative solution

Hi guys,

Overbridge is amazing and a real breakthrough for the studio environment. I was expecting a little too much and was hoping it would cater for my live needs, unfortunately its not suitable for what I had in mind. There are several things that Overbridge would of given me that I need to solve in a different manner, such as;

  • Analog Rytm and Analog Four to sync perfectly with Ableton Live with shortest latency possible.
  • Multi out from Analog Four including FX (24 bit recording)
  • Multi out from Rytm including FX (24 Bit recording)

The idea is to use Ableton as an added FX box and mixer, to automate EQ and compression settings throughout a live set for each channel of audio from the machines. This is to give me a professional punchy studio mix live while still keeping everything ‘live’ and not sampled.

The solution I have in mind so far is to purchase a Motu 16A audio interface to replace my Liquid Saffire 56 so I can cater for all incoming audio channels with a better latency turn around and conversion. That leaves two issues to solve how do I get separate outs from the A4 and how do I sync these machines with lower latency? Is there a way I can combine over bridge with bringing audio in through the sound card instead of USB to sync the machines with Ableton or would I need to get something like the Innerclock systems Sync Gen2? And bringing separate tracks from the A4? Seems like the only way I can do this is with Overbridge but then I am back to where I started?

Interesting, I hadn’t thought of using OB to get the 4 A4 tracks on an external mixer.

The sync between Live and AR/A4 doesn’t depend of any other gear than your computer : you can let Live without any outboard card, the sync is done through the plugin.
So this aspect is OK, isn’t it ?

I’m pretty sure that in the Dataline OB video just published, he explicitly states that the sync can be provided by OB proprietary format or your own card. So problem solved?

Dataline’s video may answer your questions. There’s no need for a larger audio interface –if you remain in computer world, of course.

Sync from over bridge works nicely but I end up with much more latency than going through my Firewire sound card because its over USB. Also the bandwidth limits the outputs and limits it down to 16 bit. I want to output every channel from the RYTM and FX, over bridge will give me all channels but I always have to sacrifice the FX channel.

If I play the signal from my sound card and OB’s signal on top of one another, OB’s signal is much more delayed.

For live performance I want quick snappy latency, if I hit a drum pad I need it to be on point, not delayed by 30 ms+.

The solution I found with MOTU 16A and the Innerclocks Systems Sync Gen Pro 2 will completely put me in the right direction for live performance. Only issue outstanding is splitting the audio channels from the Analog Four, only solution for this is using OB over USB, which means a delayed signal for the overall project in order to to place the A4 in time with everything else.

By the way OB is amazing. I will still be using the VST’s in the studio, but for live performance I need to go down a different route

Is there anyone out there who is using the Innerclock? How have you found it?
