I‘m on holiday with little to do, so I‘m good to go brother…
Patron saint of flags.
I’d say everything calmed down a bit since it’s now commonly sort of accepted that Syntakt isn’t the magic groovebox / synth / drum computer / -insert your dream device here- some thought it would be, and that it won’t instantly fulfil all your desires / compose music for you / solve all world problems.
Hopefully for us (and mostly for Elektronauts family members and relatives) Elektron will wait a few years again before releasing something new
(PS: All people who are still actively looking for trademark registrations: Think twice before you announce it to the general public )
I wonder when Elektron will release a new forum version. Elektronauts mkII. More moderators, more flag options, automatic deletion of Octatrack sound quality threads…
I liked your comment, because I do kinda mostly agree with it - but at the same time there’s more than a fair amount of projection in there haha
An echo chamber is the reverb of your soul - delicious in moderation!
Humans became the social species they are not because they like the sound of their own voice, but because of the power of collaboration - learning from each other and building on our ideas - adapting. Stubborn people wouldn’t have historically done very well in life.
I also think internet forums create an imaginary level playing field. We all come from different backgrounds, countries, social situations, economic backgrounds etc. Even tells in this thread indicate to me some pretty drastic political divides that almost definitely exist among us. This is a forum, not a friend-group, we won’t always agree!
But disagreement comes with lots of social complexities and nuances that easily get lost on the internet. That’s where a reflective approach is often helpful, to avoid too much amplification of issues that have more to do with our own ego than the issues at hand (which, let’s face it, are pretty trivial in the grand scheme).
We’re all guilty of it, because we’re all trying to communicate via an imperfect communication system.
But that OTsound quality thing showed me that i am not alone percieving it. That is imprtant for me, it shows that i am still sane. It would never sell my OT, i can live with certain things and love them also if there are flaws with it. Old akai samplers were sought after because of that sound , which was also a certain degredation. Imperfection is also art. Now that i know the characteristic i can say that i want it even, or enforce it.
OT2 confirmed. Sound quality still controversial.
FTFY
This really hits the nail on the head for me - people disagree in real life all the time - but it’s handled in a completely different way - the dynamics are different, and the social queues.
As someone that uses a fair amount of sarcasm and (dare I say it) dry wit it can be hard to get that across properly without a Monty Python style wink or elbow nudge.
I often find I get in trouble because I’m not much into emojis, so people can easily take things I say the wrong way.
I try and use them, but I often forget that a simple winky guy can make all the difference about how my shitty jokes go down with people.
Of course, there’s always going to be people who are offended by what I say and I’m often going to think that them being offended is fucking stupid, but I have to ask myself if what I’m saying is actually important/funny enough to excuse other people’s feelings.
Having said all of that, I’m naturally inclined to buck against others telling me what to say. I don’t mind people pointing out when I’m saying something offensive/discriminatory, but I’d rather we allowed people to make their own choices about how much of a wanker they want to be, so that we can all see who’s who.
A fucking synth forum isn’t really the place for all of that though, it just ends up causing the mods a headache and it tires me out when people (and I’ve done it too) want to use it for some culture war discussion that’s been played out a million times everywhere else.
I was joking. I like the OT threads and i don’t like how the flag option gets overused here. Let people voice their opinion. I can deal with it. Because i’m a grown up.
That raises an interesting question. Say this was a guitar forum or a drum forum(more rock and roll). Do synth forums have a quieter clientele. Because they tend to be more nerdy and introspective?. I cant imagine John Bonham or Joe Strummer behaving appropriately with social etiquette.
To me you’re one of the most entertaining people over here.
This reflects badly on your character/levels of boredom.
Never been on GS then?
