I was just about to hit 'buy' for UAD's native Lexicon 224 plug

…and I noticed that there are only 2 options for the demo - iLok authorisation by cloud or physical key.

Do I have that right, and does it apply to the full version? Anyone know? Love the sound of the Lex224, but I want to be able to take it to gigs on my laptop.

I don’t use uad plugins but I imagine yes, it requires ilok. Other options are…

uad golden which is their 224 in a pedal and is great.
valhalla vintage verb in dirty hall/1970’s mode will get you pretty close to a 224 and is super great.

Yeah - I’m considering that as an alternative. Cheaper too!

The problem is that the cloud license, means constant internet access and the key needs the USB dongle. Both rubbish for live.

There’s plenty of good reasons to not use ilok.

Valhalla vintage verb is wonderful. It does that old chorusy lex thing easily and then some. The only reason to use the uad plug would be because you wanted the exact 224 algorithm which nobody can hear live anyway.

And me mine, it sounds truly golden, so easy to control. They are currently 20% off it appears.

Native Instruments have their RC-24 plugin which is supposedly modeled on the 224, and you might already have that if you’ve got Komplete?
