If you're considering A4 vs ST

thank you! I thought I was missing something

i think a4 = deep synth
I thing st = tweak box (amazing tweak box)

So I ended up cancelling my pre-order for the Syntakt after i saw an A4 mk2 go up for sale for a really good price.

Nothing wrong with the Syntakt at all ofc, looks like an awesome machine and the demo videos did really sell me on it, but I just realised that the stuff that didnā€™t overlap didnā€™t justify it for me personally, and I have 0 intention of getting rid of my Rytm.

Also, I have been wanting an A4 forever but just never found one I wanted at the right price (wanted black so it matched my AR  ). Really, really excited about it and pairing it with the AR and OT.

Did you get that black one for $1k and free shipping on Reverb? I almost clicked Buy several times myself.

Haha i donā€™t think so! This one didnā€™t have free shipping and is UK based. It was equivalent of ~$950 (Ā£765) with shipping.

Good price! Top draw synth ā€¦ just take your time to learn and develop memory to get the best out of it.

Oh I absolutely intend to explore every inch of it.

(That came out wrong but I stand by it)

A4 is way bigger :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
thatā€™s why i never got A4, but planning Syntakt.

This is the exact dilemma Iā€™m in, OP. Was saving up for an A4 since I wasnā€™t sure Iā€™d care much about Elektronā€™s new offering, and it turns out itā€™s basically everything Iā€™ve been asking them to makeā€¦ The main things holding me back on just going ST are that Iā€™m big on tweaking and sound design, the A4 has a sound thatā€™s just incredible, and frankly I havenā€™t been impressed by most demos Iā€™ve seen of the ST. I definitely want both somewhere down the road but I have some thinking to doā€¦ Still leaning A4 first for the moment, though. Seems easier to get some really interesting experimental sounds out of it whereas ST seems like it needs to be pushed fairly hard to get what Iā€™m looking for.

Well, Iā€™ve added an A4 to my AR because I wanted a dedicated synth with 4voice polyphony and Elektronā€™s sequenzer to join my AR (where I like the layout of separate pads). A ST wouldnā€™t improve my setup.

However if I wanted kinda one fits all drum/synth solution without having any other Elektron then I would think about a ST.

I ended up ordering an A4 shortly after getting the ST. Very happy with ST but found myself wanting deeper synthesis flexibility.

Using for drums, perc, and rhythmic noise and A4 for melodic parts.

Gonna test run the ST through the A4 today.

Rytm+A4 is the best combo

A4 is also a pretty great analog drum machine when you get around to playing with that aspectā€¦

Getting the ST just made me want the A4 lol, so I snagged an A4 MKI on reverb this morning! Now I have digitone, syntakt, digitakt and now a analog four on the way. I think im becoming hooked to elektron lol.

Right now I have mpc one going into digitone, digitone into syntakt, syntakt into digitakt, digitakt going into my line 6 helix, and helix going back into mpc one for a full circle jerk of capturing anything with 2 samplers on each end lol.

I also can play guitar into my boss sy-1000 guitar synth and chase bliss pedals into helix and that goes into the mpc one to be sampled if needed and then i can pass those samples down to digitakt if needed etcā€¦

However when i get A4, itā€™ll be mpc one into a4, into digitone, syntakt, digitakt into helix and full circle.

The A4 certainly has its advantages over the compact boxes. I donā€™t have an ST but I do have a DN

My A4 has been on the shelf for too long, so Iā€™ve been working on a new project focused on A4. Iā€™ve always just used it as a sound module, so this is my first time using song mode. Holy cow, that makes life so much better than trying to constantly make sure you donā€™t miss a pattern change.

Also, I forgot how much I love performance mode. It gives you such surgical control over parameter ranges. I love my DN and Control All for creating mayhem, but the subtle sparkle you can add with well tuned performance macros /chef kiss/
