Our new Terms of Service will go into effect on May 15, 2023. We will be focused on removing old, unused, and inactive content that is not tied to a user account from our platform as well as nudity, pornography, & sexually explicit content. You will need to download/save any images that you wish to save if they no longer adhere to these Terms. Most notably, this would include explicit/pornographic content.
Among other things, this is almost certainly going to impact community guides and tips across the internet. Internet history takes another hit
Iâve never hosted any images with imgur, but this is probably a good heads up for a lot of people. I guess it remains to be seen with what vigor they implement and carry out this âscheduled purgeâ.
Twitterâs shitting the bed, Reddit is going to go hard on similar soon, I miss a less corporate internet.
âWeb2â corporate user-generated content was bad enough, at least what NFTbros called âWeb3â is dying a slow, embarrassing and ugly death.
I remember pre-âWeb2.0â I used to have a âmeme folderâ on my hard drive. My phone is perpetually filled with them and I purge weekly, itâs probably bad that Imgur is clearing house but also, I canât worry about all the content taking up space in my brain either.
Itâd be nice if we could as a society ponder a bit more on the barrage of âcontentâ (not just image collateral, of course) shot at us from the firehose before the deluge of AI sludge fills up Imgurâs servers more than they were prior to this.
The difference of note with trash memes and âcontentâ is that it takes vastly less time to generate these than it does to consume them.
