Individual outputs

I have a few questions:

[1] How do the send FX work when using the individual outs? I take it the FX are not present on the ind. outs? Which leads me to…
[2] Can you send a track to the ind. outs and at the same time remove it from the main outs leaving just the FX send for that track on the main outs?
[3] Can i use the ind. outs as sends for any track?

Thanks in advance!

[1] The architecture figure on p. E-1 of the recently released AK manual shows the individual outs as coming before the FX

[2] p. 58 of the AK manual has some details on voice routing which seems to imply you can remove individual tracks from the main outs

[3] Not sure. The voice routing section in the manual seems to imply only the Mains and FX are configurable

Hopefully one of the Elektron folks can jump in with more details…

Thanks!! Reading the manual now.

Of course, there’s still only one send FX block within the unit where all the sounds are generated/processed.

I think you can separate out just those - it’s been a long while since I used it - but yes, FX returns are one of your bandwidth usage options iirc (mk1)

Indeed and you can also bring in external audio into the computer that way as well.

yes - plus you can route audio via (straight into) the A4 filters

The FX track is the FX return, the steps will affect the FX (if playing) but you can’t transmit any tracks’ info per se - just audio

It’s actually how i intent to use my mkii once it gets overbridge. Stream all tracks in, use the main outs as an extra return and send the ext in via my mixer. You can choose in the menu if you want the tracks and effects, or one or the other so it’s flexible in how you use it.

You can plock effects changes on the fx track. You can also assign those parameters to performance knobs

Partly confirmed earlier but just emphasising that this certainly can be done and is how I use my AK since getting it - individual outs and fx stereo bus routed to separate channels in my Midas mixer. Perfect for my workflow.

the result/outcome of those (and all) locks are sent by audio - so variations in send levels will be reflected in the audio FX returns

Sound quality: Since there is no conversion involved (the digital data is just passed on digitally), it’s simply the internal sound quality of the Elektron device itself. Any other way will require at least D/A + A/D conversion …

Of course this holds only true for sound generated within the Elektron device.

Ah, sorry, I had the other devices in mind when posting (should read more carefully). Right, for the A4/AK/AR this is different, of course.

hello everyone. simple question which I’m not sure of.thinking of buying a a4 mk2. do the separate outputs have fx on or off.or can be either as I cant find the answer. thanks for help

Bit surprised by that, but No, there are no FX on any of the individual outputs send FX for the analogs - they all use one FX block on the mains, so it’s simply impossible

cheers.wasnt sure.i knew on mk1 it wasn’t possible but wasn’t sure with mk2

they both have identical architecture (just a different Lowpass electrical design) and there’s still just the one FX block - so it’s impossible to separate the sends - afaicr the OT is the only current :3lektron: device with multiple FX blocks, but those are not in a send position, they’re dedicated per audio Track - you can dedicate the 8th track to be a master FX track though

yeah.i have the ot2. some people don’t like it compared to ot1.I love it. just ordered the a4 mk2 from rubadub.10% off with them using code refit on everything. got it for £906

Hi!
I use a Zoom R16 to record my AK, (I don’t want to turn on the computer every time the inspiration flows). I record the 4 tracks to 4 different inputs on the R16. But as I do this the FX is not included in the recording, resulting in a different sound. In order to record the FX I have to connect the AK to the computer via USB, but I’d like to record it straight into the R16.

Any idéas of what I could do?

Thanks!

Thanks for linking my question to this thread.

As I understand it from reading here, there is only one FX block, making it impossible to output FX in the individual outs. But it should be possible to have just the FX coming out from the main outs. I’ll check it out, and come back if I have some more questions!
