IOS USB hubs - can you connect 2 devices: rytm and squid?

Hi all iPad music making lovers and experts.

I would like to try the following setup:

My iPad running AUM for processing of an Analog Rytm track as an insert effect; and also for an AUv3 synth.

:point_up_2:~ Connected via USB to analog rytm (For sending audio to and from (something I’m already doing))

:point_up_2:~ Also connected to my squid via USB for midi sequencing of the synths on AUM.

My question: is this possible to achieve simultaneously using a USB hub into the lightning port of the iPad?

I don’t want to waste money buying the kit to find out, if someone else has tried and confirmed it is or isn’t possible.

Thanks in advance.

You can use as many midi interfaces as you want, but iOS only allows for 1 audio interface. Last one connected wins. These also have to be class compliant audio and midi interfaces. Your RYTM will work as an audio and midi interface. (i dunno anything about a squid).

For lightning ports, you’ll need a powered hub (and the powered CCK to keep the ipad charged) if the devices are usb bus powered.

Thanks for the response @micabeza.

I’m gonna look for a simple powered hub and report back with how it goes.

Fyi. The Toriaz squid is just a (very fun) midi and CV sequencer, and I think (pretty sure) it’s class compliant.

Ok, update - I feel pretty thick actually.

I remembered that I have an overhub knocking about from when I had several Elektron devices and was trying out workflow options with bitwig.

So, I plugged that into the iPad’s lightning to USB camera adapter and powered it using a standard apple usb to lightning cable.

I then plugged both the analog rytm and squid in to the overhub, and made sure the midi settings were right.

Everything works. My squid now sequences the rev 2, analog rytm and the iPad!

The analog rytm also send tracks 3 and 4 for effecting in AUM.

It’s pretty great. Thanks for the prod in the right direction @micabeza

now go get yourself Collider
