Is there a way to advance steps using an internal trigger source?

I’m still learning so forgive my ignorance. I wonder if I can somehow advance each step on a pattern using an A4 MKII triggering the steps from an internal or external source to get cool polymetric/polyrhythmic melodies. Is this even possible? If so, I’d be grateful to know how to approach this.

it’s not a feature currently, although it’s high up on many users’ wishlists.
you could use some convoluted workarounds but none are great to use and prob not worth the effort to be honest - but if you’re interested, one workaround is:

lets say you have a 16-step pattern you’d like to ‘chop’ up. you could copy-paste each step of a 16-step pattern over to the first step of a new pattern’s 1st step - so you end up with 16 pattern featuring just one trig just on the 1st step. now you can trigger each pattern (direct change mode) with an external seq, or play it manually by using multi map (pattern play).

Thanks so much! I guess I’ll try that out one day when I have time, but indeed it seems too complicated.

Hey so I think there is another way to do this. Not sure i completely understand what you are asking but you want to have a pattern play and every time it runs through the sequence you want it to advance one more step correct? If that is the case you could create a pattern and then copy and paste it across the 16 patterns of a bank and then chain them in any way you want. That being said this has given me a great idea. i’m going to create 8 patterns on my A4 and then multi map them to pattern start on a midi note and then run my DT into it and set each trig to a percentage randomly triggering the patterns! We’ll see how it goes.
