Funnily enough, I have a Blofeld Keys on my ‘to sell’ list… it’s never really clicked for me tbh, I don’t like the workflow.
And for what the Blofeld does, I’d rather use Arturia Pigments which can also do the 2 filter thing well. (I still find myself looking at the Iridium Keys though.)
That’s interesting as a Blofeld is likely my next purchase to compliment my A4 + Digitone combo
Blofeld is a great sounding synth, really easy to program, with an amazing sound palette. It’s routing capabilities are great and it can be purchased pretty cheap as second hand instruments.
The three feel good together.
I’m finding the Rytm and OT to have way more complexity and depth but still love my A4. They all play well together.
I much prefer Micromonsta 2, (and Hydrasynth of course). More analog sounding filters, better UI. Blofeld is multitimbral, but voices can be reduced depending on settings.
Just got manther and it’s great to have a slightly different timbre and sequencer from a4 mk1 manther is more of a mc202 on 2CB than anything else and the a4 mk1 is like four mc202s baked in a magic mushroom pie that said I have bought and sold three or four rytm/machinedrum/Octa but the a4 has stayed something about those mk1s with the shitty chippy paint job and the rusty screws…
Nice! I really like the look of the screen on the MK2.
Having owned MK1 since 2015 and finally getting a Digitakt recently, they are both the same height which makes them look good together. Mk2 is bigger though I think, so won’t line up with the Digi line form factor. This might be triggering for some and a reason to go MK1!
Went to the same place re. Digitakt and haven’t had time yet to learn to do what I want with it which is essentially to make it a live looper for the a4 which I’m not sure it can be or to be a dedicated vocal sampler - still undecided and enjoying the manther dr110 mix (just ordered ottobit meris jr to spice up the dr110)
Maybe I have a gear problem or maybe it’s just a hobby….
Not ideal with DT (Mono, auto normalize, 33s max)
Octatrack is MUCH better in that concern.
Boss RC505 is my favorite looper.
Rc500 looper here,
Digitakt is not good for live looping
Digitakt is nice, very nice, but not for live looping.
It is indeed not a looper, in which you would record layers of guitar/synth phrases on the fly.
This said, Elektron sequencer is very much relying on the concept of loop and pushes it very far, you can sculpt your sound loop after loop, and you can easily start from scratch, building your loop in live, so “live looping” is not totally alien to what the Digitakt offers
Maybe one day someone will make a DT hardware mod to start stop sampling with midi CC, so it would possible to make OT RAM machine tick with manual saving sample in between of record and playback)
The MK2 is much bigger. The screen was the main thing I was upgrading for.
I actually ended up returning it though! The larger size messed up my desk organization, and I ended up liking how the MK1 feels better - the slower encoders, more solid buttons, and the smaller size. It fits next to the Octatrack perfectly.
There may have been some nostalgia involved in the decision to keep MK1 over MK2, but also it wasn’t a smart financial decision, and it’s a pretty hefty cost for what ended up being nice to have features for me.
Ah maybe my old pigtronix looper suffice - haven’t used it with midi but apparently it’s quite stable and has two tracks…merry Xmas everyone!!
My boss rc500 had a little latency, that is why I might better have bought pigtronix. My rc 500 is very flexibel in it’s settings though. Very happy. That msec of latency is not a good thing. After looping, i have to slow down my a4 for a very short moment, but this means I cannot make 2 loops, or overdub.
Looping on digitakt is nonsense, you should know better. Simply makes no sense
Here is a video about looping and transition inside digitakt,
Here is a video I use my digitakt as a (non-live) looper, as explained in the video
Might look like a good idea, but at the end looping in digitakt makes no sense. Resampling is amazing but looping….
Thanks man that looks clever as hell
I was about to post it!
Big thanks for sharing. Can’t wait to go through it.
Bang!!!
