Keystep-Digitone-Model-D Question?

Hello All,

As I am hooking things up, I ran into this little issue.
Keystep is connected to DT via MIDI (Keystep’s MIDI OUT -> Digitone MIDI IN)

Behringer Model D is set to MIDI Channel 5, and it is connected Digitone MIDI OuT Thru B -> Behringer Model-D MIDI IN

I am able to play Model-D with Keystep When I set it to Channnel 5. I can also play any of the four MIDI channels of the digitone.

I am unable to play MIDI notes from Digitone panel into Model-D and Digitone is not sending any sequencer information to Model-D. I am unable to Sequence to Model-D in MIDI mode.

In settings, Out B Thru is set To MIDI. Tthe midi Channdels for MIDI mode are set to 5-9
So, it seems I can not understand why can’t I send a sequence from Digitone to Model-D
As the matter of fact, I am not able to put any MIDI data into the sequencer in MIDI mode…

digitone only sends midi on its midi out port. the thru port only mirrors what comes to the midi in port… so if you want to sequence behringer from dn you need to use midi out.

Can I use then MIDI Out THRU B to Sync to The TR8s for Play-STOP-Tempo?

it will only mirror what keystep sends, so if it sends clock, then yes, but dn will only send it own clock at midi out

the midi thru is only a midi thru or can be used for din sync… its in the manual :wink: maybe tr8 understands din sync…?

you could also use a midi merger to merge dn midi out and thru into one signal

I am not sure if I fully understand how MIDI connections work.

Now I re-connected:
Keystep MIDI OUT -> DT MIDI IN
DT MIDI OUT A -> Model D MIDI IN
Model D MIDI THRU -> TR8s MIDI IN

I am able to sync DT and TR8s as DT is the master playback…
But Now I am not able to send any MIDI data into Model-D

Ideally, I want to be able to receive Ableton Live tempo, send the sync to TR8s from DT and use DT to sequence into Model-D

and have arturia Keystep as the midi controller for DT sounds and Model D

cant you send midi only from digitone to behringer or no midi at all? if you connect keystep directly to model d?

if you want to play behringer from keystep via the digitone, you have to use a midi track on the dn for this…

please search the forum for:

dn dt keystep midi…

there are already many helpful topics about this and the whole midi thing with this pretty popular setup…

btw: on the forum DT is for Digitakt
DN is for Digitone, just to prevent confusion…

Sorry, it is DN-Digitone, mistaken the abreviation.
I have managed to connect all of it and it works!
On the front panel DN in MIDI sequencer you need to set the channel number…

But in the midi port settings, the channels are set 1-4, and 5-8 for MIDI instrument.
What confuses me is that you have to set the corresponding channel to the one you want to use under the SYN1 panel. Not completely clear how this works…

cool that it works now :slight_smile:

in the midi settings you set the midi channel, from which the dn can be controlled.

in the midi track settings (syn1 page), you set the channel on which dn sends midi out. (for every pattern, btw) these channels do not have to match…

also have a look at dn autochannel, it lets you play, whatever synth/midi track is selected on dn from one (the same) midichannel (from keystep)
