Machinedrum window replacement

Hey fellow Elektronauts, I have a cracked window on my machinedrum and have a replacement but how do I attach it?

Appreciate any help.

First of all make sure the window inset on the panel is clean, remove any plastic and glue that remains from the broken screen. Some solvent might come in handy here.

The replacement window should already have glue on the bottom - you just need to remove the tape. If it doesnā€™t have glue, get some glue and put a small glob in each corner and the top and bottom middle points on the back, set it firmly in place and press down, running your thumb along the sides so that each point youā€™ve glued is pressed against the surface. Let it rest for a moment and then it should be good to go.

Just make sure there is just a little (strong) glue so that it wonā€™t spread out into the window area.

Ess, your amazing. Thanks so much.

Thereā€™s no glue or tape on the new window so I will follow your clear instructions and use some gorilla glue.

Oh also you might want to remove the faceplate while doing this - youā€™ll need a Torx T10 screwdriver for the top screws.

It will come off easily you just need to remove the encoder caps before the panel. If theyā€™re stuck on there using a spoon to leverage the knob and push it upwards is usually an easy way to remove them.

Yep got Torx T10 and thanks for pointing out encoder removal.

I think I will try and source and fit a new display whilst Iā€™m in there. Have you ever done this?

I donā€™t know what that means as a kind of glue but make sure itā€™s not too strong,
so you can change it again later if necessary.

Gorilla Glue is a super glue similar to Krazy Glue.

I donā€™t know either but the name sounds like ā€œstick to deathā€ (maybe too much).

Yeah gorilla glue is the brand and is a strong glue. What do you suggest?

A solid glue but not too much, I had a problem like this a long time ago and replacing the part I had (too strongly) glued was a nightmare.
I damaged the chassis, it was loctite.
Iā€™m not a glue specialist but ask the DIY store, they know! In addition, some glues can ā€œattackā€ the plastic. In short, be careful with this jewel.

Not sure where youā€™re located but I recommend E6000 as stated earlier just a thin amount as any excess will spill out onto the face plate

Thanks for advice dickmalibu. Iā€™m in the uk. I can get E6000 Plus which reads the same as gorilla glue.

Iā€™m thinking just a small globule on each corner of window? Btw have you got a MD Black faceplate?

Very small globule at the corners but not so much that it will bleed through the sides once you press down to secure. Be careful that whatever adhesive you decide to use doesnā€™t have stray wisps of glue fall on the clear portion of the LCD window. ( I learned the hard way on that one)

I would go with 3M double sided tape used for mobile screens installation.
