MC 707 / 101 : New Roland Grooveboxes

Could an owner of the MC-101 or MC-707 please tell me: How many minutes of samples can you load into looper tracks across the current project? I find contradicting information about this. On Gearslutz someone said 60 seconds in mono, the Thomann product page says 12 minutes in mono (both assuming 44.1kHz).

12’ is for samples used in tone tracks. Looper/60" is correct.

With 707, yes. With 101 no (because no audio input)

Thanks! 60 seconds is a bit disappointing though

Depends on your needs I guess… in my view that’s 30 one bar loops. More than enough in a live context for me. Also, you can delete some of your loops to make room for more loops while the sequencer is running.

101 has loop sampling thru USB!

well… you’d need a computer though ?

All your base are belong to us.

is there anyone without a computer?

Perhaps class compliant devices could work if connected directly?
Need to check this…

Nah. MC doesn’t offer host mode nor does the USB B connector allow this.

Cheers. Im still a little confused though. Is this realtime sampling?. So you play a pattern(melody) on the Reface say. Do you have to save first or can you keep on jamming? Cheer s

Yes, myself on stage.

Yes, this is realtime, no need to stop jammin. Stop only to save your project

Cheers. One more. Can you use the onboard FX of the groovebox on an external synth in live play.? So the sounds coming out of the synth have granular/reverb/delay etc. This would be good.

Only the global effects (MFX/EQ/Compressor) affect the external synths, the Reverb and Delay are per track sends. For now, you cannot have a dedicated multi-fx for the external input.

In the end I am sending the 707 back. I keep having issues with the Multi FX, causing freezing, and other bugs. I have been in touch Roland, and sent them videos of the issue, so hopefully they get a fix soon. It has been fun 707, maybe we’ll meet again in the future after you’ve had some time to mature.

i really do not agree:
rolands software is arcane straight from 1994 i do agree, the manuals are terrible

but the fx (still from the sp series + a lot of new ones) and sounds are boss! Also the sequencer and looper and scatter as well

i own an opz and the mc-101 makes me realize the opz sucks bigtime (relatively compared to mc-101) .

regarding sound only?
I love the OP Z workflow.
