Couldn’t find it either.
Hopefully this link will work, but it’s up there now.
The clip chain function is on of my fav new thing.
Question for the 101 owners, aside from not being able to slice samples on the 101, does it handle samples the same way as on the 707.
And just to confirm, imported samples can be one shots, played chromatically, or as time stretched loops?
In one-shot mode, can you have samples stop playing when you trigger a different sample (choke group) and can you have them play only when you are holding a pad down?
In chromatic mode, can you play them polyphonically, to make chords?
I’m quite interested in the loopers in these boxes, as have been trying to find a midi syncable looper with control of speed, fx, reverse etc for a while. Any comments from owners on this aspect of the MC’s ?
Is there any foot pedal control ?
Slowly but steady they keep making low key but needed updates.
I tend to believe that Roland has a lot more in store for theses boxes.
The more I put time into it, the more I love my MC 101.
Even if it has less tracks than the 707, I dont need as many tracks as I was thinking as :
-a drum track can have 16 one shots.
-one drum sequence equals one clip (there are 16 clips per track)
so clips make for 16 drum sequences per drum track.
-the ability to have tracks (drum / tone / looper) bounced to a looper track (or better said, recorded into) frees a lot a tracks.
The clips are powerful when you use them right.
So far just scratching the surface…
As a compact sound module with a capable sequencer and great effects, this thing wont leave my rig anytime soon.
I’m really digging the 1.30 update for MC-101. Just being able to duplicate 1/2 bars speeds up the process tremendously. All the added shortcuts are great. Also like C1-C4 multi-mode. Haven’t even tried out the new clip functions - - Nice update Roland!
When you use the new audio insert function I’m able to apply effects to the track, but it seems I can’t apply the filter to it?
Same! It’s really great. Hope they make a video about clip mode updates soon, I don’t quite understand what it does or how to use it. I can’t parse the instructions.
Just as I sell my 101 a week ago…
I started a thread about immediate gear selling regret.
This now completes confirms I should have held off.
- observations after reading the release notes:
The frquency of updates from Roland since launch is very “unroland”. Something tells me they are very much invested in these two pieces of hardware (101 and 707) and probably indicates that the mc line is their roadmap for development over the next few years. In fact their updates since launch equals one update more in the same timeframe as the digitakt.
Still no inclusion of the zen core synthesis engine and coupled editor. One of the most hotly anticipated features for not just these boxes but many other Roland gear in general. To think that that synthesis power is still another update away is insane. Roland are not sleeping on these boxes
This latest update: honestly I genuinely believe with the exception of onboard sampling, Roland are gunning for the digitakt and mpc. Probably won’t (at least now) deliver the sequencing capabilities. However: it’s work flow vs digitakt and mpc, it simply destroys them. So fun, so intuitive, no bullshit.
I sold my 101 to fund an mpc one. I think I’m going to go up a notch and get a 707. The capabilities are fucking insane
And before I get flamed by the novation circuit users.
Yes you guys do all that good sequencing without a screen at all yaddah yaddah.
The only thing the circuit has over the 101 is the components editor which is a shit fest. But the optimisation it gives can be useful.
Overall sound. Useability, workflow. It murders the circuit
Can’t handle the dinky little screen on the roland mc’s l guess l’m spoiled on my force with a 7 inch colored screen. Too much menu diving also l think l will stay with my awesome force
Just means the 16 big pads represent the clips for just 1 track. The little buttons with the numbers will select your track - the big pads will update accordingly
in what way is the 101 workflow better than the Digitakt or mpc?
Are you on the 707 or 101? On the 707: Make sure the track is a tone track, and select a filter in the tone edit menu (mfx). You can then map the cutoff knob to the cutoff of the mfx filter via the modulation matrix.
How do you Copy/paste a single step?
Func up to copy. Func down to paste. Only works with tone tracks as far as I know.
Thanks a lot! I searched for „copy“ in the manual, but couldn’t find anything… and tbh I find it hard to learn, that func &shift are different things
After about 20 tracks I made I only miss arp and transpose (select more tracks at once and transpose them with the pads).
It was in an updates only manual.
