All of the sounds are done, kit layout is being finalised, you have access to all of the 808 sounds in one kit.

Impressive!!

Very cool, can’t wait to pick this up!

i sampled my 808 and put it into my MD if anyone is interested. The kick is compressed pre sample too, so its nice and punchy.

Definitly interested!

very very very nice.

If this is anything like your MD909 pack then i’m sure it will be amazing,
because that was just superb.

Looking forward to this

These are unchopped wavz of me recording the 808 in real time. Each part that has a switch to changes instruments has been changed in the wavz. Meaning that you have all the sound sin there, Im just too fucking lazy to chop them for you. Also, each extreme of tonal controls is also done(for those that apply) as well as decay settings. The wavz are roughly a minute or so each. Also, there is accents recorded into them as well.
At the end of the kick wav, there are a few examples of compression as well.

also keen!

Daren Ager posted a pretty solid 808 kit for the MD a while back. The below track is made with said kit, but I used goldbaby samples for the RS & CP. There is nothing wrong with the sounds for the RS & CP that Daren used in his kit, but for this track, the samples worked better in the mix. All synth sounds on this track are from the Analog FOUR. This one has a very 1992 sort of sound to it… but yah… the machinedrum is very versatile:)

Here’s another one made with the Daren Ager 808 kit. All sounds on this track are machinedrum only. The buzz-saw bassline is a single cycle saw wave used in one of the ROM banks.

If interested Daren’s kit was available on the old Elektron Users site. It might still be there if you do a search. Just remember to thank him for sharing it:)

Yes, Daren did a great job with that Kit.

I decided to create the MD-808 independently, using the techniques I used to design the MD-909 kits.

I think you’ll find it comes very close, better than UW samples, in terms of both dynamics/punch and timbre.

I’ve used a combination of circuit analysis, spectral comparison and lots of careful listening.

For example: it required about 3-4 days of trial/error last week to get the RimShot just right (one of my favourite percussion sounds of all time).
I wasn’t even going to attempt the rest of the kit, until I had this down.
The technique I used in the end, actually matches the original voice circuitry surprisingly closely.

Nice man… I’m really looking forward to purchasing both your 909 & 808 kits. Once I move to my new home and the gear out of storage;) The move date is March 8, which is good, I’m starting to develop a nervous tick… I haven’t made a track since we started looking for a new home:(

Great job Justin - and epic choice of showcase pattern

I don’t have my MD anymore (or my 808) but when I did mine I just got the MD as close as I could to the 808, at some points I really could not tell which was which on the kick, I think I remember not being 100% happy with the rimshot and cymbals.

FWIW I think due to the variation in actual 808’s it might be a good idea to have a few kits, I seem to remember a few years back some other guy did a 808 kit too.

Thanks for the kind words guys, and nice to hear the kits (the 909 one is great too!)

Sounds great Justin, as did your 909 pack. I’ll be picking it up when I get a bit of free time on my hands to play with the packs on my MD. Between these and Daren’s A4 DRUMA pack, and the OT, I’m covered on drum sounds!

justin, when will it be ready?

I hope to finish things up this weekend. With a release early next week.

Brilliant programming!
