Not really. I just don’t go there anymore. I got a Sequential just like you. They’re just too damn good, it’s hard to find a good match elsewhere. Even with processing, you’re still
enhancing something that’s fundamentally not right to start with.
Maybe we’re derailing this now. The MM2 truly seems like a great kit.
I can’t give any sound demos at the moment, but for my taste it sounds really good. I had that “body missing” feeling every time I used the Microfreak, but never with the micromonsta2
Ask @elektrosamplist!
All I can tell is that I already really enjoyed MM1 after a Blofeld, and that I envoy even more MM2 after a Virus TI. Contest?
Edit : Sorry @elektrosamplist I missed your above response. Could you please explain evolutions technically? How did you improved filters, drive at first…
The filter compensation when increasing resonance is stated in the MM2 manual.
I’d say it doesn’t behave or sound exactly as analog things, but yes, sounds warm if you whish.
Really digging this little machine. It pairs so nicely with the digitone. It feels like, with this pairing, the sonic palette is almost infinite. I just had a little jam with a long evolving sound on the A timbre and short glidey acid type sound on the B side. The controls are very intuitive and important functions are quickly accessible. I really like the reverb, I just want to pour it on everything.
I think everything is better on MM2, and that it can reproduce MM1 or P6 sounds. Not the other way.
I don’t remember MM1 drive, wasn’t impressed, but I found MM2’s impressive. It can make sound definitely warmer easily, without too much distortion with the right settings if you wish.
I’m finding myself wishing for some amplitude- or ring-modulation. I hoped I could fake it by abusing the matrix, but no dice. And the FM, though lovely, is a little harsh for the space bells I’d like to patch.
But literally my only annoyance after three solid days of tweaking.
Oh and a shortcut that, if it’s in the manual, I overlooked:
Hold down “Alt/No” in the Osc screen to adjust that osc’s level without going to the mixer. You can also hold it on the Mixer screen to adjust drive settings without jumping over there. Saves a bunch of time.
Also makes the “Alt” label on that button make more sense, now.
Do you find it harsh even with SIN waves? (osc 1 and 3)
I mean, it sounds exactly like a 2 Op FM. Which is to say, it’s hard to even out the buzzy sidebands to dial in the… dissonant overtones(?) like I can with ring modulation. My lack of any theoretical vocabulary is really getting in the way of my explaining this
But suffice to say I don’t have any problem with the way the MM2 does FM (though ±25 cents of fine tuning does feel limiting sometimes). I just wish it did AM or RM also.
