Midi interaction between Digitakt, Ableton and external synth

Hello, I have my Digitakt set up sequencing instruments in Ableton. I’m using the Digitakt keyboard to play them, recording notes with the Digitakt. All audio and midi is coming via USB from the Digitakt.

I want to plug an external synth in using the Digitakt as the audio interface with Ableton seeing it as a midi device so I can use Ableton midi effects. Is this possible whilst still using the Digitakt to play/sequence it? If so, would I use the Digitakt’s midi thru port to connect the synth?

Sorry, new to the Digitakt and newish to Ableton.

Hey timksy,

Interesting setup. Does your synth have USB midi? If so, just plug it into a USB port and set it up as an external instrument in Ableton. If not, then set the MIDI OUTPUT to USB and MIDI, and connect the synth to the MIDI OUT port.

the synth is a Blofeld so yes, I believe it can send/receive midi via USB. Wanted to use the DT as the interface if I could. Will try again, connecting it the way you suggest. Thank you.
