Hello all, trying to integrate M:S (and M:C) in Ableton Live.
Ableton captures MIDI from the MS/MC sequencer no problem, to those that might come from the future or Googles, once you activate ‘Mout’ on each track (Function+Track on each track), M:S and M:C send MIDI data per track which Ableton captures. Beautiful…
But playback is the issue. I can sort of make it work my mapping a MIDI channel to each track (Ch1 kick, ch2 snare, etc) but it takes 12 MIDI channels between MS and MC and find it inconvenient for my workflow. Even if I group the channels there isnt that I know of, a arm all . I rather have all tracks in the same midi channel (same piano roll) just like it does when capturing MIDI.
I think I may know the issue. If you are step programming or using the 6 Track pads to enter notes (vs live recording using the 16 trigger buttons) the Model:Samples (and Cycles I’m assuming) send a C5 note. If you record the MIDI then all of the 6 tracks will send out the same C5 notes.
The way to change this is in the Track Setup menu (FUNC+TRACK). Make sure each track has a different note assigned under the Pad parameter, for example:
T1 C5
T2 C#5
T3 D5
T4 D#5
T5 E5
T6 F5
…or whatever notes work for you. This way you don’t need to use different MIDI channels, or if you already have it set up as different channels then you can simply record a MIDI clip in Live by selecting MIDI From - All Channels.. Let me know if this helps.
Edit: I thought I was some kind of genius when I wrote this, but now that I’m trying it out I see the problem. Live can record it perfectly (and you may have already set things up the way I described), but upon playback the unit plays each sound chromatically at the same time. Actually came out sounding hilarious.
Back to the drawing board…
