Midi & unable to play other tracks besides track 1

Hi All!
I finally hooked up my midi keyboard successfully into the Model:Samples, but it only plays the 1st track - I tried selecting the other tracks but it keeps playing the bass drum on track 1 - I didn’t find the answer in the manual - any ideas? Thanks so much!

You have to configure each track’s MIDI I/O, and then match your MIDI controller’s channel to the track’s channel you wish to play.

I usually have tracks 1-6 on MIDI channels 1-6, respectively. Depending on the pattern, i’ll also do 11-16.

If you want to be playing the sample on track 4, try setting your MIDI controller to channel 4. I think the M:S defaults to track numbers for MIDI, but you might have to doink around in each track’s settings to make the magic happen.

I’m sure it does, but I can’t remember if the tracks receive any midi by default. @virgilguitars definitely explore the settings on the M:S for (incoming) midi … both at the global level, and at the track level.

HA! I finally got it - I was looking for love in all the wrong places… wait! I thought it was a problem with the M:S, but after seeing your posts I realized that it may be the OLD controller’s problem (M-Audio Keystation 49e that I’m using temporarily! YIKES) but found out how to change the channel on the Keystation and I got it! Thanks guys!!!

So I read somewhere that an external midi keyboard will not allow LIVE RECORDING or GRID RECORDING, so … It doesn’t let me record a track via an external MIDI keyboard? Am I missing something here?

OK, so I just watched a video on Model:CYCLES (As opposed to “SAMPLES”) and the guy seemed to be pressing down the “Copy & Clear” buttons at the same time and looked like the recording was working, so I just tried it, but it seems hit or miss… maybe I’ll mess around with it a bit more - this is becoming really fun, as I owned a sequencer many many years ago (Boss DR-5!) and NOW, I have close to 2 TB of samples on my PC and having a blast dropping these into this machine… I’m like a kid on Christmas here…

It’s press and hold copy, then press clear and release them both. That gets you into live recording mode.

Excellent! I’ll give this a try!

Yeah, so I just got a chance to try this thing out…very cool stuff, now I just need to find my creativity in all of this… there’s not a button for that  Thanks for all the help - I’m moving right along now!
