Minimal set up for DT and DN (without soundcard)

Can I connect my DT to my DN without using a soundcard ? Like connecting directly one to another via a MIDI cable ?

While waiting the overbridge !

Midi connection will allow one box to respond to pattern changes you make on the other.

Audio connection will keep you from using a mixer or a soundcard. Choose the order carefully though:

DT > DN: you get to use the Digitone’s thru FX on the Digitakt signal (chorus)

DN > DT: you get to sample the Digitone, but can only listen to its input dry.

Cool, thanks for the answer. I found this setup on youtube which is what you describe.

In the end, for the next newbies like me, is needed:

  • A midi cable from one box to another (careful choice here)
  • Two audio jacks from one box to another (same order)

It seems that sending the DT into the DN has the advantage to send mono into a stereo machine (? confirmation needed, here).

The DT has a stereo output. You can pan the channels, and all the FX are stereo.

There’s a handy dandy page in the DN manual on this. But don’t forget, the master input setting are saved per pattern, not globally. Kind of a pain for me personally, but it could be used creatively too, I suppose.

It is not possible to process external audio through the digitakt FX ??? It kind of a deal breaker for me

Not live, it passes audio through but you need to record it to apply FX.

This, especially with the DT compressor sidechaining things, would be fantastic. My guess is the dsp required to continually sample at the same time as playing back 8 channels of samples is too much.

Maybe the Elektron boffins can work some magic though.

Yeah sometimes I would dream of digitakt XL that support stereo and multisample, with some polyphony and the possibility to apply FX to the input … and why not a midi phrase sequencer like on the A4. That would be the perfect brain of a computer-free setup.
