Mixer question?

Had a question on a mixer. I have a clarett 4 pre audio interface. Its working fine and i never have had any problems with it. I was wondering tho. Would you use a mixer and an audio interface together?

I am using an octatrack, digitakt, dreadbox erebus v3 and nyx v2.

I am just wondering if it makes sense to use both or just fine tune with the focusrite…

Personally, I would use a mixer. I see mixers as playable instruments and can’t really imagine playing without one, even if I’m only using one synth.
That’s just me though.

Yeah I’m with you on that for sure, mixer with a nice EQ is great for performance and tuning your sounds just how you want. Easier to discover interesting compositional shifts with a mixer aswell.

That’s said you could totally get away with mixing in software but I would at least get a midi controller dedicated to do mixing.

Or you could get a bank of midi knobs (like the Faderfox PC4) and assign to eqs in your daw. That way you still benefit from Overbridge etc.

I see the appeal of a mixer but I have about 40 channels of audio going into my interfaces so it’s just not an option.

Thanks for the info guys. I know moat mixers now days come with their own audio interface, but i can always just go with the focusrite and use the mixer as is.

Thanks again :call_me_hand:

Any suggestions on a good mixer brand? Looking for a 6 input.

There are so many. Probably comes down to your budget.

If you get an mtk12, you get both a mixer an a mulktitrack audio interface. You can mix with the computer plus a controller like akai midimix or novation launch control xl

I bought the mtk12 but sold it, I already had a capable audio interface. I may get on of this controller for jamming in the computerter and a small mixer like Behringer Q802USB for small hardware only jams, it has USB audio so can record those jams on the phone.

If you’re going the interface route and want to go for a cheap but quality mixer (not sure what your budget is) then the Mackie Mix8 can do 6 input and I got mine for I think $70 on eBay as an open box brand new. Channels 1/2 can do mic or 1/4 inch mono (can use these together for one stereo device if you just pan them L/R). Then 2 inputs each on 3/4 and 5/6. Also has an AUX Send/Return if you have some effects you might want to share across multiple channels.

Yeah i was looking at some mackies. I was looking at a SSL Six. But damn. $1500 for a mixer…just not a priority atm.

I only do hardware music. Just a daw for recording. So im thinking a mixer is probably a good idea. I do EQ’ing in my daw, but would probably get better results from a mixer

Thanks for the info everyone
