earlier this week I made a post asking for mixer suggestions…
well I took the plunge and bought a mixer.
and boy oh boy did I pick a good one.
I bought a Yamaha MG166cx… got it for a great price, and it is AMAZING.
I cant stress how amazing this sounds… there is build in effects, and they dont sound that great… but they are usable.
the build in compression is great… The PRE’s are great… and im plugging the two outs into the two in’s on my
audio interface, its its just amazing.
I really havent even delved into the onboard effects… but I had to turn down my monitors to about 2-2.5 no lie beause this thing puts out serious power. The onboard compression sounds GREAT, and I made a bus that uses my moogerfooger analog delay, and I route things into that and it just sounds amazing.
The story is I bought the mackie… and it was 249$, and the yamaha was 429$. so I took the mackie home, and was like “ehhh this is good… but i always do this thing where im like… shit I wish I had got something else” Anyways, I brought my MNM to guitar center (i know… i hate GC but its the only place where I can try stuff out in my area)… anyways, I looked over at the yamaha and it was down to 349$… so im like, what happened and the dude was like “oh it got marked down” and im like for good" and hes like yeah, from now on… because they are pushing the USB ones…" so since it wasnt a sale, I also got to use my coupon for patriots day… so yeah… its came to like the same proce as the mackie… But about 10000000 times better.
Thats money towards the analog rytm, or the korg/arp odyssey… or the modular system that I have wanted for about years…
Im not sure what you mean “what did you get for yours” I didnt sell my MNM to guitar center… I dont think I would ever sell it, but if I was to sell it … It certainly would not be to guitar center.
I brought it to test out the mixer, because it a great kit to try things out on, I could get the bbox sounds to sound AMAZING. I got the SID synth to sound really really soft, and really brutal… so yeah…
Its the mixer that I ended up getting.
I was thinking about getting the yamaha with the USB in the back, but there was no need,
I just plugged the xlr outs, to the 2 1/4 inch ins in the front of my Komplete Audio 6, and
it sounds great.
Everything sounds great… but the analog gear sounds sooooo nice.
My Poly evolver with a little compression, and a running sequence sounds like heaven.
