Interesting. What’s the difference between normal step sequencing and that of the monomachine?
Grid recording (as we know it on later Elektrons) is non-linear, you can program any step at any time. The Step mode requested is used on lots of gear - e.g. Sequential Pro One (or even Arturia keystep)- you enter notes/rests sequentially, step 1 2 3 etc
Aha, SH-101 style. That could be useful for changing things up every now and then.
Just received, after weeks of backorder, my Model:Cycles; love it - pure genius! I can record held notes over multiple steps easily in live record, but I’d really like to be able to extend/tie notes in grid mode too. No matter what I do in grid mode, each step appears always to re-trigger.
A simple approach might be in grid record, to hold down one trig, then press any number of adjacent trigs to extend the duration of the initial note. Seems like a doable firmware upgrade…
or just make the Trig note longer as per all Elektrons - see respective note edit menu where you tweak note/vel/length etc
plus holding multiple trigs allows multiple trigs to be edited, so that’s not a viable approach
hmm… I don’t think that you can tie notes in live record you are probably just hearing the length parameter line up better with the next trigger but any note data recorded in live ends up with a retrigger, as avantronica says you can use length parameter on a per step basis to get a similar effect. If you want to actually have a note change with no retrig you need to use func + place a step for a lock trig and then lock a new note value on that step, make sure your previous note length is long enough to pass through the note change.
An option somewhere to disable the delay filter would be easy to add and a nice option to have.
What do you mean by this? Like a highpass on by default?
The delay has both a highpass and lowpass applied to it.
Excellent alternatives (with avantronica), doesn’t really flow for me though; I just want to extend notes by adding adjacent trigs and hearing what happens real-time. The thought was in linking trigs to tie them, the added trigs take on the characteristics of the initial one first held down, which would preclude the ability to edit them individually - they are linked and act as one. Perhaps logistically too complex to implement though.
The idea was that they could add additional synth parameters that can be adjusted using the LFO in constant mode.
Two requests from using MC the past week:
-
Increase the “window” for queuing the next pattern. I noticed that compared to other machines, MC does not count pattern switches that are “just in time” as well. If you queue the pattern less than a 16th before the downbeat it counts it as “late” and the pattern switches after the current cycle. Machinedrum is definitely quicker to switch patterns, you can do it milliseconds before the downbeat of the next cycle and it will switch.
-
In menus such as the LFO settings, I think Press+Hold should enter “edit mode” for the selected parameter (and change it coarsely) instead of skipping down or up a few parameters as it currently does. There are never more than 4 parameters so not much purpose to that… and my instinct was that it would edit the parameter.
One request concerning Tempo.
When driven by an external clock, the [Ptn Tempo] displays EXT , nice but it would be more useful to ALSO have the current external bpm displayed, something as EXT(120).
Thanks
PS: Same request for Model:Samples
Add an OUT+THRU mode under MIDI > Ports > Out/Thru where incoming MIDI is mixed in with the MIDI generated by the Cycles
Some idea about individual envelope or randomisation for synth parameters
[track] + [counter/shape/etc]
Its not my idea but think its very useful. Because one lfo its to small

Thnx
It exists a PC to select a dedicated preset. all other CC are track dependent.
Please add PCs or CCs to control
- main output,
- pan,
- Current track
- and other global parameters as device usb mode (A+M or M), etc.
Same request for Model:Samples.
that would be great!
Remove the confirmation for FUNC+TEMP SAVE (long press i.e. PATTERN SAVE). It doesn’t serve much purpose imo.
Resetting the LFO’s on PLAY / SYNC START (or having the option) would be nice.
