Model:Samples Trigger Random Sample

Not sure if there is a way to do this but Maybe someone has an idea. I’m looking to set a trig condition where a sample can be randomly chosen from a specific folder. Say you have a folder with a variety of kicks, or a folder with different snares. The probability could be set to that specific folder with random chance. Maybe not possible thru Model Samples alone. Perhaps thru external gear with one of the tracks set to midi? Has anyone done something like this? I have done this through Ableton’s Sampler using velocity to trigger random samples, but would be even more amazing on Model Samples if possible. Any ideas? Thanks.

I’m not sure it’s possible to reassign a new sample randomly. Here are a couple alternatives you might like, though:

  1. Assign a wavetable file, then assign your sample start to an LFO or to pad velocity
  2. P-Lock a sample to a step just before/after the step you want to change, use nudge to get the step as close to your original step, then conditionals to both steps.

Yeah, I can’t see any way to do exactly what you want, but as a creative alternative if you’re looking to have different snare sounds on, for example, the 2 and 4 (steps 5 and 13), you could have a main snare that always plays on one track and then have a couple of different snares on the same trig note on different tracks and set them at different chance settings so that you end up with different layers of snares randomly.

The best I could do at the moment…

I don’t own a model samples, but from what I’ve read (while considering buying one) I’m wondering if it can be done by putting multiple snare hits into a single wav file, and then modulating the start point with the LFO, set to random/sample ‘n’ hold ? Might possibly mean you need 120 different samples (for the 120 different start points) for it to work.

Anyway, IF there’s anything in this, it will take one of you guys with a model:samples to make it work.
