Why? Has it arrived?
Got an original Live that has been used almost daily since it became available and have had no issues with the finish on the casing. See this mentioned often and always wonder about the environment other devices have been used in and also whether there are multiple iterations of the original Live, perhaps with different finishes.

Just received my Mpc X and wanted to mention that the red side bars have that rubber coating.
I think it will probably be at retailers during the announcement. Thatās how the MPC Studio 2 was. It was in stock day one.
My understanding is that the rubberized coating is worse on the original Live compared to Live 2, but maybe thatās just because of the original Live being older, not due to a material improvement.
In any case, none of the One editions has this coating, and the Retro Live 2 coating is also spared from this problem.
Mine are smooth plastic. Thatās weird, ordered new too about 6 months ago, maybe itās new? Not sure why theyād add it. Which screen cover came with yours? Iāve noticed sometimes people have different ones.
If I hadnāt had a Live 1 previously I probably wouldnāt have noticed how the side bars felt on the X. But itās that warm to the touch, finger slightly dragging feel, as opposed to smooth sliding on the metal face plate of the X or even the Live II I had.
ive got the same cover. my sides are definitely smooth plastic. what a weird change, I wonder why they add it at to any of the units at all. I think it probably gives that smooth soft look in photos when its brand new but gets dusty very quickly. I wouldnt stress about it though its much less of a problem on the X id say, I barely touch the sides. could always replace them if its a bother
Iād like to second this as mine is still good minus the corners are scraped off from the decksaver. I was only repeating other users issues and what seems inevitable with this type of finish.
My only issue with my finish atm is itās a pain to keep clean.
Iām not really bothered by it to be honest.
And being a previous owner of an original Live, One, Force then Live II, i have to say the X feels the right fit this time. Although i wish the X had the push/click function on the main wheel. That said the main wheel feels much nicer to use than on the other units.
literally the first thing I tried when I turned it on. expected either a click or a 4 way encoder. you get used to it fast. I had a quick affair with a one very briefly then decided I wanted the q links. I barely even used the Q links on the one and didnt realise how powerful theyd made them cause I didnt dig into it. having experience with the X now I feel I could use a one properly funnily enough
I had exactly the same thought when I first got the X, coming from a Live 2ā¦ but I quickly got muscle memory to leaving my right hand fingers on the wheel and thumb on the button(s). The flow to it is great once you get it feeling natural.
And youāre right, the feel of the wheel on the X is fantastic, a definite step up from the Live 2 (and the One).
Yep doing that already and itās comfortable. The whole machine feels amazing to use & be in front of. just wish iād got it earlier.
Yeah that does sound weird, my sides are āregularā hard plastic as well
Does anyone know if the X can use SDXC cards?
Thanks
Manual doesnāt seem to specify, but there are a fair few reports from people using 512GB cards in the Live, so I would imagine so. Iāve got a new 128gb card around somewhere, so if youāve not had a definitive reply by the time I find it, Iāll give it a try to verify.
Iām using a 512gb sdxc in my live ii, so I think you are right.
Thanks people.
Im thinking of picking one up as i have a gap in my studio for something like this. Marlow Digs put me onto it with the Analgue Heat to warm things up a bit. Price is ridiculous for what it does. What are your plans? Are you going to post edit or use compressors or things like the Heat In the chain? Cheers.
June 23rd, 2.11 update is coming, thatās got some new plugins thatāll work on the master buss.
Thereās already some decent ones in the MPC anyway, I donāt think youād āneedā the AHā¦ and besides, there are better sounding options for a lot less if you take your mix files into a DAW for final processing.
