MPC Thread : MPC Live - MPC X - MPC One (Part 2)

I wish they could implement more of this interface dialogs like this one

I just sold my Force because despite the arranger mode, the MPC song mode worked better for me…

Similar to this observation by @djadonis206 not long ago re. probability and chords. It sounds a bit like probability hasn’t really been thought through, because I’d expect the default behaviour to be that the probability is applied before anything else. Certainly I’d want a 50% ratchet to be applied in full 50% of the time.

I guess the MPC is splitting the note when the ratchet is created, so that each repeat has its own probability setting - but that presumably makes it impossible to have a ratchet that plays in full a certain percent of the time? Because you’d need something like the Elektron ‘prev’ condition to make that work…

Hi !
I need an advice from Force users that would really help me.
How the hell do you softly mute a synth plugin which has a long release please ? The mute on the Force is an audio mute, not an event/midi mute, so when you mute a synth, the release of the synths are instantly cut, which is sooooo unmusical….
Any tips please ?
Thanks !

Track volume automation would be how I’d do this… You can record it in live in the arranger or into a clip as far as I’m aware…

Thanks
But i mean how can you softly mute in live conditions ? Keep the release of the synth falling when I want to mute a track ?

Control the Program track volume instead of the midi track volume.

I did the same on Saturday, less than 24 hours after adding the keys.

I started playing with clips, they’re ace.

The new plugins on the MPC honestly make me appreciate my second-hand Roland MC-101 more, which I got for around $300. Many of the sounds in the new synths on the MPC Keys remind me of the Roland presets. Admittedly it’s not as convenient to connect an external device to get these sounds, but it feels like far more “value for the money” to own a hardware sound module for $300 than to own a plugin pack for one machine for $500.

Second hand devices always have more value for money.

So thats a given when you compare that price to a brand new launch price of a plugin.

No surprises there.

Roland also charges for new instrument plugins and sounds. Similar prices too iirc.

I guess the “proper” Force way is to stop the clip playing. You can change the quantisation for this with Shift and the 1-8 pads at the bottom of the grid, so you can have it work at any point. Then activate Clip Stop in the bottom left and use the track pad at the very bottom to stop the current clip. This will only cause MIDI to stop, so any remaining notes will play out.

The main downside to this is that you can only then restart the clip from the beginning, so it’s not much good for performance mutes where you have a long loop and might want to mute / unmute along the way. But maybe it’ll help,

Thanks but if I remembered correctly, stopping the clip cause the same brutal cut.
I can’t try now cause my Force doesn’t want to boot anymore… T_T

should probably ask that in the Force thread…

Just did a quick A/B between the new MPC update and the Force, and it looks the same (and sounds the same to me). So good news - the changes seems to have happened in the firmware in your head, which you can update at any time.

Try asking at:

That’s the Akai Force thread.

Clip Stop definitely lets playing notes come to a natural end - I tried it with a soft synth, a kit, and - yes! - even a keygroup before posting, to make sure I wasn’t just talking turkey. It’d be different for audio clips, of course, but for MIDI-driven synth patterns it should do what you’re looking for. Good luck with the booting…

While true, that slightly missed my point: for the full launch price of the MC-101 ($500), you don’t just get 3000 sound presets of which many are not just highly usable, but arguably Roland classics - you also get an entire portable groovebox to go with it, along with a physical device that means it has a really long-lasting value as a sound module. Who knows what happens to Akai’s plugin licenses the day I decide to upgrade to an MPC Live 3.

So in my world, $500 for a soft synth pack is grossly overpriced and totally not worth it. Let’s see if there will be any major discount deals in the future and I might grab at least the FM synth.

They will very likely work.

People are using their MPC Key 61 license on the original MK 1.

As long as the Live 3 has this instrument and same OS, and so far they have been great on support across the MPC line.

as for comparable stuff prices,

check out what Roland cloud charges for single instrument vsts.

Thats the price comparison.

Volca FM2 is a better value than the MC101, for your hardware to software comparison.

Prices of older MPCs (2000xl etc.) have been going down lately, I bet if you wait and check reverb every once in a while you could find a good deal. Screen is much smaller on those ;-P.

I’m excited for you to get your rossum sp1200!
