Here in Germany you still pay more for a 2000XL than an almost new Live 2.
My guess is, that the 2000XL has some kind of “classic” status right now, in comparison to a few years ago. I see a lot of Techno and especially “LoFi”-House producers using the 2000XL, also in livesets.
But I think right now it’s hard to justify a higher price for a 2000XL than a Live 2/One.
They really are just two plug ins, the stage series use the same samples as fabric but with modeling over the top… but they are goodish I think… op4 is almost brilliant in it’s interface… over all they are definitely not a deal really, but great to have when your consider all you can do in the mpc with them, plus the ui is very good and they are relatively deep.
Plus Roland Cloud is a recurring subscription and can eat shit.
And tiered levels too oof.
Yeah, I’m sure I’ll arrive at the same conclusions once I do give it a try. I honestly don’t feel the need for Juno sounds enough to warrant keeping it, but maybe if I made a really good synthwave tune. But then I’d probably mostly autosample and/or sample entire phrases and carry on making the song in mpc standalone since the synth engine doesn’t offer much in terms of live tweakability anyway. So yes, I may also end up reselling it.
I do have a special game music project coming up though, where I’ll need some authentic string ensembles and similarly soothing sounds, and for those, I think the MC-101 will be just fine since those sounds rarely need more automation than simple filter and envelope changes anyway. Will share my experiences once I get to it.
The new MPC plugins include a 4-op FM synth and clonewheel organ, neither of which are found in the Roland MC’s, as much as I like mine.
Not in a hurry to buy right now, but they’re on my radar
Even though it’s a lot bulkier, and it’s from the dreaded B-company, the Deepmind 12 Desktop can be had for not much more than the MC-101… which is absolutely crazy for a genuine 12-voice analog poly… and that covers a ton of good Roland ground and has a good/enjoyable workflow.
Must have been user error. I’m using the license from my MPC Keys on my Live 2, and have been since Friday.
Yes, I’ve thought about this route… you just lose some mod/LFO movement though as a trade off.
I’m not too worried though, it’s Akai’s first foray into Probability and it’s early days, I’m sure they’ll improve it over time. I’m glad it’s there, and happy to make use of it how it is.
I really searched for this everywhere but nope, didn’t find anything to switch the mute mode
(oh, and sorry I’m not really in the correct thread, I move out to the correct one, thanks all )
I think I remember reading that you can use the licence on up to 3 machines.
On the Live 1. Didn’t even know you could update via wifi these days!
Here I was, searching for dongles, USB cables and the correct update file.
It’s crazy how far it has come since release!
Are there some kind of manuals for the new plugins? I want to check out the capabilities of the OPx-4.
I have a Reface DX at the moment for my FM sound palette, but I’m unsure if I would get the same sounds out of the OPx-4. I think the sound editing features on the Reface are okay, but the interface is not that good. The OPx-4 seems a bit more hands-on and the integration in the MPC ecosystem is a big plus for me.
Is it possible to run the master out through external hardware and then feed that back in so I can use the internal speaker?
I guess that should be possible if you hook it up and then just monitor your input channel
Route all your channels out of Outs 3&4, into your hardware, back into the MPC inputs, then route that to Outs 1&2 (and the speaker).
Very cool tracks as usual. Did you use OPx4 only for synths ?
MPC Live 2 + Faderfox EC4
vs
MPC X
This seems like a fair fight to me.
Main advantage of the X over Live 2 is the 16 q-links.
EC4 connected to a Live 2 gives you 16 continuous controllers, in 16 banks, in 16 sets. (256 scenes of 16 controllers… powerful stuff).
I’m deciding between these for a couple of live shows I have coming up… and I currently can’t decide.
Any thoughts?
I can’t speak for live use, only studio. I haven’t tested a faderdox, but it requires more setup time and cognitive load.
The X is a beautiful machine. Not only does it give you 16 q-links, but also 16 OLED screens which takes it to a completely different experience.
It also has huge amount of dedicated buttons, and that is a game changer for me.
And then the larger adjustable tilt screen, gain meter etc, the list goes on
Thanks. OPX-4 and Fabric synths were used on these snippets.
