I thought that too (at least they kept the 1/4 inch mic input!)
I think Live 3 will get it!
The force has one, the new keys has twoā¦ but the live has a preamp for the phono in, so I guess it would cost too much to have two preamps at different levels. The live is more for beatmakers anyway though, the others are more for song writers.
I havenāt installed an SSD on my X but I was wondering how you access it. Can you access the internal SSD via computer? Iām guessing it comes up in controller mode like the SD card. Iām thinking about just loading a shitload of albums in there on an SSD so I can just dive straight in and start chopping.
I have a question regarding default levels per outputs on the MPC X.
Today is the first time iāve tried to set everything up using separate pairs of outputs. I was trying to match levels going into my Quantum 2626 & noticed a massive difference in default levels from the main outputs (1/2) compared to the others (3/4, 5/6, 7/8).
Initially i thought it was an issue with a particular pair of cables, as they were the only 2 different from the others. I also thought the inputs on the Quantum might be faulty, but once iād tested everything it was clear that it was the volume from the main outputs of the X.
Thing is i didnāt notice that the master volume knob on the X was only half way, so when i turned it fully up all levels from all outputs matched. Maybe iām missing something obvious but when looking at the internal levels of tracks/outputs etc i can find anything that shows this.
Why are the other output levels much higher at default? Can anyone sheds some light on this?
Thanks
The master knob is the level for your main outs (1+2) right? So if you had it on half your 1+2 will have been half the volume of the other outs so when you turned it up it matched the other outs which are being controlled purely by their fader in the software. Iām pretty sure thatās what you mean? Iām thinking the knob says master because itās assuming youāve got your monitors plugged in to 1/2 but if youāre tracking out 8 outs itās not gonna be the master. Iām not at my X right now btw I canāt even remember if the top right knob says master or 1+2 or volume or what lol
Yeah you can address the SSD in controller mode, thatās exactly what I used to do, I just dumped my entire funk and soul Library on there and had at it, only trouble with using full tracks is scrubbing through them which could be a bit tedious unless you know the region you wanna get to in advanceā¦
anybody having issues with the latest update, have they ironed out the kinks yetā¦ getting impatient to install?
It does make sense.
As I was only putting everything through outputs 1/2 I was used to adjusting everything on a track/programme level via that knob or per pad.
Cheers!
All good for me.
If anyoneās interested, this is all Mpc X.
Itās a work in progress but just wanted to show how I use it for techno. Elements inspired by one of my all time favourite eps, by Ross @154 (Fragments)
Thanks man, 30 something years ago and mentioned, what more could one want as a musician! Fun fact: the ep was made for a large part with Akaiās first foray into consumer samplers, the magical S-612. Selling that for peanuts is prob one of the dumber things ive done
Great track!
Youāre welcome and thanks for listening.
That ep has been on my regular playlist for those 30 years too. I remember the night I heard it and the day I bought it.
Cheers!
A very basic issue but I canāt work it out.
Iām sending clock and transport to the X from an Octatrack. All good, but Iād also like to start and stop the Octatrack from the X.
All obvious boxes are ticked on both units but transport is only working one way.
Any info would be appreciated.
What I love about the MPCās is using it as a midi controller for so much stuffā¦and itās so damn simple to set up.
Using one midi channel to my Blackbox and use all 16 pads to trigger the BB sample slots.
Using the pads to trigger my Drm, mk4 drum machine.
Just easy and quick.
Hi,
Workflow question here:
I enjoy working with tracks set to a different track length than the sequence length. However arranging those tracks becomes a bit tricky.
Lets say I have a 16 bar sequence. In that sequence I have a percussion track set to loop after 12 beats. Is there any way to have that track start on a certain bar in the sequence? I.e start on bar 5, play a few bars, then stop?
Currently I bounce the track to sample then assign it to a drum program and arrange its location in the sequence that way. This works well, but it would be nice to keep the flexibility of midi.
Many thanks.
All MIDI tracks in a sequence will play immediately unless muted.
Iād say post a shot of the X midi settings screen and the OT midi settings. Hard to know otherwise. Not that you donāt know how to set it up or anything. Sometimes I miss things that are right in front of my face on my gear. Iāll pull my hair out over some stupid midi setup or routing issue then I come back the next day and try the same thing for it to work as intended immediately. You might well have sorted it by now
Can the MPC receive transport without receiving clock?
In my experience, this set up works much better with the MPC as master rather than the OT.
