Need some tips on recording audio from the model samples

I got a Model Samples a while ago, and I want to try recording the audio into my MacBook.
This is completely new to me and it’s much less straightforward than I expected :frowning:

I tried to use the USB connection, but then the Model Samples doesn’t show up as an audio source on the MacBook. It does show up in the “transfer” app.

I read the whole manual from front to back twice, I’m sure I’m missing something important somewhere?

I also tried connecting the headphone out to an audio interface, but then I only get mono sound because my Native Instruments Komplete Audio I has only one input… (which is also baffling to me…)

How do you guys record audio from the model samples into a laptop?

Thanks so much!

I don’t have a Samples, but I have a Cycles, so it should work the same. I recorded into Audacity over USB. I had to go into System Preferences / Sound on the MacBook and select the M:C as the input, moving away from the default (built-in mic). Then I could select it in Audacity.

Thanks! But do I need to adjust some setting on the Model Samples first? Audacity does not find the audio input.

Try quitting and reopening Audacity?

Did you set USB MODE to “A+M” (Audio + MIDI) in the CONFIG > DEVICE menu (manual, page 42)?

Ehmmm… no I might have missed that part! I updated it, now the Samples is selectable as Audio source on the Mac. I can grab audio with QuickTime! But not with Audacity. The monitor stays silent and no audio is recorded. See screenshot:

All of this is familiar. You have to click in the top right where it says “Click to start Monitoring” in tiny print. I found that the volume was too high and I don’t know how to change it in Audacity or the Sound pref. Fortunately ctrl-all on the M:C worked but one shouldn’t have to resort to that. If you learn anything please share it here.
