New to the MD

Hey all…

I bought a used SPS-1 a while back. I have found it to be very intuitive to use, and I absolutely love it. However, I feel as though I am not using it to its full potential. I have made numerous kits of really cool drums and I understand how it works in general, but like I said, I don’t think I’m using it to its full potential.

Any tips? Tricks? Ideas?

recently purchased the md-uw myself. i’d suggest going through the old elektron-users.com posts and reading anything md related. i’ve pulled some some decent info from there as well as these links:

hope that helps.

now, what would really help me would be for an accomplished user to do a video step-by-step track making process using as many functions as possible. i feel like i’m adapting to each tool seperately without a clear idea of incorporating them as a whole. i know i’ll get there but i’d love to bypass some of the mistakes and start progressing a bit faster.

LFOs with a very low amount on almost anything is good. They also can be used as an envelope.
Layering is the key for big snares etc…

Keep you busy for a while

EDIT @ Theeattre…great minds lol

haha…definitely!
and i totally get what someone one was saying about reading, re-reading, then re-reading the manual. so much to digest that it only starts to make sense after multiple attempts. too many “ooooooohhhh, that’s how…” moments to count. i. guess that’s why a complex video or walk-through would be pretty nice. even though it might be out of order of how one would go about learning the machine it would at least give a clear picture of your future with it.

which style are you going for ?
are you distracted by other toys?
do you know the CTL machine?
do you use samples?
how could you use all the ins and outs of the MD ?
can you collaborate with other people? look at somebodies workflow?
could you take the MD with you to bed and play half an hour every night with headphones undisturbed?

enjoy, ask for help, we are a awesome forum!

op, don’t mean to hijack your thread but i’m in a similar position so i hope you don’t mind me piggy-backing…
questions:
dub/tech/house MD is your friend for that
no. md-uw is my focus. That is a Bonus!
i know what it is but i’m not sure how to use/successfully incorporate it yet.
SaSamples can add a lot to a good beat / rhytm and help you stay focussed … just a simple C note + e note sample can spice things up … try it out, VERY confusing at the beginning especially when you consider the engeeneer style manual …

not yet but will in the future.
i currently have a xoxbox i’d like to incorporate and plan on a monomachine purchase once fluent in md.
unfortunately not, hence my want for vid tutorials. Too few totorials!
sure. i’ve been getting nightly sessions in with it for the past week. good , do that more!

… also just ask in the forum when you have questions … where are you from ? berlin? we could meet :stuck_out_tongue:

i’ll definitely be looking for future advice!

and no, i’m in the states. texas to be exact. though wish i was in berlin! :joy: your scene is still thriving.
