Noise on R Input

Hi all,
I’ve got a Digitone today. It’s second hand, but looks in new conditions (the previous owner didn’t even update it, firmware was still 1.02).
When I turned it on the first time after few seconds this loud noise kicked in, like a harsh/digital noise.
I did upgrade to 1.20, thinking this would solve the issue. Reboot the unit… that noise was still there.
I went into the Master menu, and after setting to zero the R Input volume, the noise is gone.
So I suppose something is wrong with the R Input.

Do you have any advices what to do? Any other settings to take a look and set up right?

I tried also to do Factory Reset, but doesn’t seam to help neither.

What number are you running your inputs at?

Do you mean in the Master menu page?
“In L” can be any value from 0 to 127 and it’s dead silent.
“In R” is giving me an headache. At value 0 nothing, but already at 1 the noise is present.
Note: nothing is plugged into these inputs.

Yeah that is what I meant. Hopefully someone can help you out.

Anybody else here ever experienced such issues?

Somebody on facebook told me he had a similar (if not the same) issue also with a second hand Digitone, and the problem were the delay and reverb levels staying cranked in the master menu.
And in a way I was feeling this noise may be caused by feedback loops.

I still have to try this out (I won’t be at my place for a pair of days). But in case this may fix this I’ll let you know.

What’s the behavior if something IS plugged into the input and making sound?
If you don’t have anything plugged in, set it to 0.

Yes, I’d say this shouldn’t happen even with nothing plugged in and the input level turned up. But it’s worth trying this out. Maybe something is shorting the input?

The behavior is that I hear what’s plugged in plus this noise.

I dunno, I didn’t had the feeling something was in the input jack shortening anything. Maybe that’s a mechanical check I could do, opening the unit.

I wouldn’t open it as you may void your warranty… Although sure, some people don’t care and like to do this anyway.
If there’s actually something wrong with your unit, it would suck to find that out the hard way.

You can try to register your DN on the elektron website and create a support ticket. There you can also check if it’s still under warranty (i think it should be).

If you can’t register your DN, try to contact the seller and ask her/him to deregister.

If the the seller is not available you can still try to contact elektron support.

Maybe the unit has to send in for repair. Good luck that the problem will be getting fixed

Thank you all for your kind reply. Yes I hope to find soon a solution to this problem. Otherwise the synth engines are working great.
I read the manual this weekend and I’m looking forward to dive deap into the programming process!

I never immagined something like this could ever happen: it turns out the previous owner knew about the noise issue, but he forgot about it since he never cared about the inputs and used it only for the synth engines! … and he was selling it in “super conditions, like new”!!!:face_with_symbols_over_mouth::face_with_symbols_over_mouth::face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

The unit had to be faulty from the beginning on, but the guy never tought about getting the DN repaired or replaced with a new one!

Luckly enough I’m getting some money back, and the warranty is always valid: I’ve already opened a ticket!
