I think things have moved on since I did it - there was a patch for midi that had to be used but I believe that is now possibly not required - I think if I was starting to get the windows .exe running on mac I’d be looking for a simpler solution via winebottler (i indeed used this recently for a different windows program with some success, not a midi program though)
The only source I know of for info on the hacky approach to running wine (without using bottler, which itself still requires some decision making and research) is via the pages on Nord Modular at Electro Music - just Google Electro music Nord Modular wine patch or similar and you’ll find discussions with the author of the patch - even that required a bit of investigation elsewhere in terms of the wine side iirc … it’s doable and worth it, I think I had to reach out on a wine forum to get a few issues sorted
but see if you can find anyone on the Nord mod Facebook page (or Electro music) who has done a recent install using winebottler or indeed any program using MIDI successfully
thank you. i’ll search the group to see if there is any recent or more up to date mentions about it if i don’t get any success using wine and the exe straight up
For what it’s worth both G1 and G2 editors still work perfectly here on Windows 10.
No such luck for either editors on my Mac when I had it a few years ago.
Even the G2 editor which was supposedly compatible would still lockup on my Mac.
Moral of the story, get Windows
Was actually one of the reasons I switched back to Windows
I use Wine on OS X (made an OS X app using Wine Bottler running Win XP), but if I was starting from scratch I’d use that Stage Engine link above, pretty sure it’s the same thing but they took all the work out of it. Easy either way though!
BTW, search around and you’ll see that certain USB to MIDI devices are compatible with the G1 and others aren’t. Just a tip to save you some hassle.
Yeah the stage-engine link I provided is a self-contained .app file, no messing around required. Took me a while to figure out which interface I needed, as it was a little picky, but in the end it works very well.
Just curious and sure you have tried it but only just noticed on Nord website the ‘Nord Modular Editor OS X Beta’ download for Mac.
I am pretty sure this wasn’t here a few years ago when I was using my Mac
Does it work?
Stil got both models
I wanna try morphing a bunch of midi cc -> Monomachine.
The nord G2 key is, IMO, still the best midi controller ever made !
You can send , sequence prog change , assign several midi cc to a knob , morph between several CC values, use variation to completely change a patch on your hardware synth. Control sequencer with a foot switch, record midi seq on the fly, midi LFO , Audio trigger to midi etc etc …
I cant believe nobody made something similar just for midi.
Saw this on Sonic State yesterday. I was able to download and test for a short while after work on my MacBook running Catalina 10.15.6. Which is super exciting! I will try and get short video as soon as I have some free time. Cheers.
