This is good - thanks. Norns looks like a bit of a mystery to me, so it is good to hear people ‘demystifying’ it a little. I don’t think I’m the first to say that it looks a bit daunting from the outside and some people are more confident than others. But think I will give Norns a go.
Any suggestions for generative midi scripts?
And can you use Ableton Push 2 as a controller for Norns? I can see that a couple of people started a project to do this but I’m not sure where they got up to with it
There’s a really handy resource page build by the Norns community that can help narrow down what scrips do what, and they’re tagged and searchable too, which is very useful: Tags | norns community
Push 2 has apparently been made to work with Norns as an alternative Grid, alongside other devices (most often Launchpads - I use two Minis Mk 3) that work as substitutes using midigrid.
{Oops - I see several other answers were also provided while I had to leave my computer for 15 minutes).
My interest in Monome grid-based stuff has increased since I’ve had the Oxi One. I forget all about it even having a grid mode until I accidentally hold shift while powering it on.
Kinda tempted to grab a Norns to add to the sonic palette but honestly not sure if it’s for me.
The quirky patches and community spirit remind me of the great time I had with the C&G Organelle.
Pointless post I know but hey, it’s a lazy Sunday working from home.
finally decided to stop lurking and use my first post to tell you: do it lol. there’s so much you can do without a grid so i wouldn’t even worry about getting one at first.
I’m so close as well. I’ve wanted one since launch and followed the fates and shield development. But I sold my old grids in the meanwhile. But now I’m convinced no one is going develop the platform I want and Monome as we know is an open system and there is so much inspiration in those scripts and interacting with the grids is so much damn fun.
This recent string of posts has helped cement my decision tbh.
I’d like to eventually dip my toes in, is there a reason to not go with a monome kit if i don’t mind the wait for enclosure? Other builds, I’m sure there are reasonable price differences.
the kit is mostly assembled (afaik comes soldered already and with 3d printed case)
depending on your diy skills and cost of materials (or if you already have micro sd, rpi and other tools needed) the cost might be lower by tackling the project yourself
Well i initially wanted to use it as a sort of sound mangler with MLR and similar scripts.
But Im having a hade time syncing it and just understanding MLR.
