what is your workflow as title says?.

.so now I have 4 tracks, 3 of which send chorus delay and rev to the FX track… off course in Ableton I must set up the MAIN Track to be able to record the FX via the MAIN OUTS… darn… must I record all them individually and add the FX MAIN to it too in abelton? … what am I missing? how do you do it?

tl dr: how to record fx easily via ob into ableton when 4 tracks send fx
No easy solution for this one I’m afraid. Since the FX are sends they’ll only ever come out of the mains and all mixed together, so if you want to use the A4 FX then as far as I can tell your options are:
- only grab the stereo out via OB and do your mixing in the A4.
- only grab the stereo out via OB and do one recording pass in the DAW for each of the 4 tracks
Option 3 is multitracking via OB and adding FX later. This is the one I’ve opted for - if I’m in a studio situation I have some nice FX plugins at hand anyway. I’m looking at the A4 built in FX as nice little extras to have when playing standalone or live. Of course, if your sound design techniques depend heavily on timed delays and big reverbs then this might be too much of a hassle to recreate, so back to option 1 or 2.
option 2 seems to be the best, and was VERY obvious , but I did not see it! … thanks Mr Anfim … btw, what happened to ur face in ur avatar pic?
Yeah doing that for 4 tracks isn’t so bad, compared 8 on the OT
Face was melted off by a sorceress during time compression. (+1 XP to anyone who gets this reference)
“2.only grab the stereo out via OB and do one recording pass in the DAW for each of the 4 tracks”
Forgive me for being a noob, but I’m having a hard time understanding this procedure. Could you explain this a little further?
Yeah, so the goal is to have a recording of each of the 4 tracks, and each with the internal fx. But since the fx are sends there’s no way to separate them per track, unless you make 4 different recordings of the main outputs, each time unmuting a different track.
Step by step:
- set up four tracks in the DAW, listening to the A4 main outs
- on the A4 mute tracks 2,3,4
- record track 1
- on the A4 mute tracks 1,3,4
- record track 2
- etc
The fx in the analog four are great but using abletons fx it’s even better!
Thats a shame I got really frustrated recording clips on ableton and they were all dry, using ableton effects made the trick though. It seems that for the analog rytm I will have to keep making it that way with 8 voices doing the wet recording one by one seems cut all the inspiration. Doing the stereo wet recording with the A4 seems not to be that bad. Automation also is not that usefull as I thought, for the same reason. Hope all that elektron find the way to fix all this things and make it even more practical to use that it is now. Im very happy with OB but this kind of things are a let down in some way.
Maybe Im missing something, but theres no video or demo that shows an easy way to manage FX and automation with a complete arrangement just showing sneak peaks.
