Just adding to the chorus of admiration for all the work going in to this. BOO! to Elektron for not supporting it.
Octatrack is amazing but hampered by a very fiddly operating system.

more excited about rustyās project than about OB
No reason for OT owners to care about OB unless they also have an A4/AK or RYTM.
whatās a fair price?
Iād say about 10% of the OTās price as long as the software is supported with updates for at least a year.
The big fear is that some OT os change comes out and screws up the software somehow.
same price as sound tower?
As it should be. Iām in.
The Chainer module.
The Chainer module allows the ability to create Sample Chains on the fly from various audio files. Features include drag/drop from file browser or audio pool, integration with OctaEditās other modules like the āSamplesā and āSequencerā, randomisation and so onā¦
This is not the case of someone looking up the published sys-x/cc data list and making a simple synth editor.
I do not understand the mind set that this should be next to free and be a financial loss for the developer
Good stuff cost money, Iāll keep repeating this,
Go try to buy a luxury car for a few thousand dollars, when you cant, go on a car forum and bitch about it.
And yes I will be buying it at what price he sets. ((Y)

since half a year, the ot is officially my main live stage toolā¦

it clearly killed my laptop live rigsā¦itās my final live solution and so itās time for a second one for back up issuesā¦
octaedit was not on my list until nowā¦
but that all said, it becomes a serious option nowā¦
iām no beta tester at allā¦but an osx version that let me prepare projects upfront on the computer would be nothing but a killer and iād be willing to pay for this with no doubtā¦
and if elektron would do some beta tests and keep it in mind for further updates, this would be greatā¦
ot deserves itās own kind of overbridgeā¦ so once that is done, give rusty a helping hand on this oneā¦
I got my money ready. Ready to make it rain
Waitā¦ what?
Rusty- that shit looks dope!
20 or 30 $?
What your getting here is essentially OB for the OTā¦As close as anyone is ever going to get with the current OTā¦
I have a feeling there isnt going to be an OT 2 but hey there might beā¦
I thought long and hard about this and the fair price i feel is $100.
Now this would include ongoing support and whatnot but if its not supported correctly guess what - your on tour with your OT, something fucks up and if you have to do something or apple changes something - what ever the scenario - your gonna want Rustys ear yes?
OT is a tiny market and niche software is really reliant on its user base to support it otherwise its dead in the water
It thereās an OS X version Iāll happily pay whatever price rusty sets so long as itās under 200 us$, but I donāt have a pc, and am not a computer savvy guy so Iām out unless thereās an idiot proof and free way to run this on OS X after buying the software. Iām sure I canāt be the only OT user like me in this regard.
Rusty must be amused with all our voluntary unsolicited efforts at price discovery on his behalf!
Iāve a feeling, given he has the chops at developing software, he might already have a pretty clear idea what he is going to do.
Regardless, Iāll chime in:
I reckon Iād look at what soundtower charge across a range of synths for their editors, the support & upgrades they will provide (or not) once youāve bought, plus a fair premium for (probably) octatrack and the need for an editor being a niche market.
In my view he has both invested his time in cracking the hex protocol and developing a thoughtful set of functionality in a professional manner with beta testers.
My main concern if he is going to charge above a certain price is that he will also then provide a reasonable bugfix and enhancement path.
There will be a lot of good ideas from people once they get his first functionality delivery.
Iād prefer an initial purchase price of X for the early adopters and then X + 20% after maybe 6 months as a strict rule. Iād also expect he invests in some piracy protection so as he has a decent income stream and is interested in further developing the app.
For example I have zeeedit for my FS1R. Beautifully developed app for a very complex niche synth that totally opens up its usability thanks to the developerās skills at coding and design for EUR42. There is a free alternative. But for the price of a tame night out in the pub it is great value for money. Downside is there is functionality Iād love added, but I canāt complain that it delivers on price for what I knew I was buying day one.
Itās been very interesting reading
