Ah, that’s a shame (though congrats Rusty). Think I’ll wait and see what other modules get added now before taking the full price plunge but well done for a successful launch.
I just wanted to say congrats with the release! Making this is quite an achievement and well worth the price you are asking. Thank you for doing this.
Congrats!
Any timeframe for .midi->octatrack pattern and vica versa conversion, if that will be available?
Has anyone from Elektron HQ bought it?
/flattered
No. Well, as far as I can tell, no Swedes did according to PayPal info.
PM Me.
I’ve been lurking this, mostly unsure if the software would be usefull to me… Then I just saw possible .midi and my eyes lit up. Just putting that out there. I think I’d actually buy it in any case just to show my support of your OT hacking.
Whoa, didn’t think early access would be for one day! Guess waiting a week was a bad idea! Oh well, any OS X users with feedback. Was it easy to install given Rusty’s instructions?
One thing is sure : It is impossible to buy the app today…
Yes.
Even got a new project going that I am migrating multiple projects too.
Early Access licences: Clarification.
Rather then allow all seven people who wanted it, to buy it, and get inundated with support issues and feature requests, the number of early access licences was limited to four.
Those four early access licences got snapped up pretty damn quick.
I hope you can all appreciate and understand why such an approach was taken, as I believe having an inital controlled release would be the best way to roll out to a wider user base, whilst providing the best level of service and support that I can.
Remembering that I am only one guy, and i[/i] OctaEdit is very feature rich and complex, and no-one wants to have to deal with buggy software and showstopping bugs on a product they purchased, and not getting the support they want and deserve because the developer is curled up in the corner crying in a fetal position because of all the stess.
Offical Answer:
No, does not exist. Do not buy OctaEdit for a Midi module, or certain functionality that doesn’t exist at the moment.
Unoffical Answer:
I’ve already built a good chunk of the ‘Midi’ module which allows the ability to import a SMF (Type 0 or Type 1) , this can then be modifed as required, then pinged off to the Octatrack as required.
The thing is that there is a lot of “business rules” that need to be addressed and tested, a lot of logic and a lot of code.
For example, here is four scenarios off the top of my head… how do you handle these?
a) Three notes… so which one is the root note?
b) Three notes of different lengths… Octatrack can only handle one note length per trig… which takes precedence?
c) Five notes… Octatrack can only have four notes, so which one is ignored?
or maybe…
d) Five notes, of different lengths… which one is the root, which one to drop, and what length to use?
Then of course there is all the UI / UX, because, well, you’re basically going to want a piano roll won’t you?
Basically, we’re talking about a midi sequencer, editor, and filter (note, CC# and SysEx), all wrapped up inside OctaEdit with another layer of logic to cater for the Octatracks limitations…
It’s cooking, but will be a little while and entirely dependent on the level of support of OctaEdit aka volume of sales.
There are a couple more modules above the Midi module in the pipeline as well.
Again: All of the above is “unoffical”, so don’t quote me / hold me to it.
How’s keyboard support? I’d love to be able to drive this thing without a mouse.
Quite limited to a degree. Way too much complex functionality to be easy to use with just a keyboard.
May I ask what the core driver for being mouseless is and then I can advise better?
It’s really just a personal preference - I don’t have a really solid use case for it. It does look like there is a lot to edit (and rightly so, the OT is a deep machine). I would personally rather learn key combinations to get from page to page, parameter to parameter, etc. than to have to mouse around to the right spot.
That said, I haven’t used the editor yet, so for all I know it’s already easy enough to get around in and this is a non-issue.
Not exactly the most compelling use case truth be told.
I think it (OctaEdit) is way too complex and feature rich to be the type of application that would benefit from a keyboard focus, and I believe is easy enough to access and get around with via the mouse.
But I’m biased… ask users.
Yes.
Even got a new project going that I am migrating multiple projects too.
