Octatrack + Cicadas

Its summer here, and with it comes many cicadas… noisy little creatures. Why suffer the endless drilling whining drone, when you can make music with it?

I grabbed my field recorder and captured a few minutes at various locations.

Then into the OT those recordings go…
Just a quick live recording of me jamming around, not perfect by any means.

If you want some cicada samples, send me a message.

solid track. is this ALL Cicada samples?

Thanks!
No, sorry if I mislead.
Kick was sampled from my DFAM.
Snare and hihat and hi pitched perc sound sampled from DMACH app on my phone.
Melodic stuff from some orchestral sample I got from I cant remember where.

Everything else is Cicadas.
Whole track was made 100% in OT. Recorded hot through my mixer to Tascam DR05.

Awesome idea and track! It’s winter here, and one of our first really cold weeks, so this was oddly therapeutic??

Thanks for sharing this. The first few tracks I ever made were inspired by the summer and cicadas (in Texas). I always found their sounds oddly relaxing, they combine with the heat and put me right to sleep for a cozy late-afternoon nap.

Id say more cathartic.
There’s one that makes a nice tonal hum, but when all the different species go at once…
Not exactly a relaxing sound.

Good for noisey samples though!

reminded me about this.

More Cicadas…

the battery went flat while recording, but I kinda like it.
Octatrack, TR09, a little nudge from Quadraverb.

Love it @Microtribe, especially the second track.

Never thought I would enjoy the sound of cicadas, but here we are!

Thank you. I like the second one a bit more too.
I added some filter modulation to make them swell in and out of the mix. Sort of works.
