dude, i feel your pain. i just tried to implement a hybrid setup recently after being dawless for a while. getting everything to consistently work with Ableton and Overbridge and midi was a headache. Everything would work fine, the it wouldn’t, who knows why? i eventually gave up and ordered a Zoom Livetrack mixer so i can at least record from the mixer and transfer to Live for mixing and mastering.
all of the above was probably user error, but either way it was a creativity killer.

Since you commented on my comment withdrawal: may not be relevant. But I’ve never had good results using the Heat as an audio interface, always click and pops and other crap.
