I find overbridge unusable due to timing issues. Im not syncing the hardware sequencer or using the AK or Rytm sequencer at all. Just sending midi note info via ableton through the usb and using overbridge to receive the audio and receive automation of parameters from ableton.
With one device connected, say the AK…it runs ok but now and then, skips a beat and kind of falls over getting back up in the wrong place out of time.
When I try to send midi to another device through my babyface sound card, the midi timing is all over the place.
When trying to use AK and Rytm together I found it unusable too.
Noticed another similar thread, but Im not using the AK/Rytm internal sequencers. Is anyone else experiencing this?
Timing issues can be caused by the extremely high latency Overbridge has, we are used to having 2 to 10ms max with most soundcards(def 2ms with the Babyface for instance) but OB has a latency of 28ms and up. Hopefully they will fix this at some point but for now OB is only for tracking, not jamming.
BTW its not latency which is problem, as long as the latency is consistent. As it is normal for hardware and can fixed using Abletons midi delay. The issue I get is that the OB all of a sudden falls over and jumps out of time and sounds like a galloping horse. BUT only when I start using the Babyface midi-din out to control another synth. Almost as if OB can’t handle another midi interface being used simultaneously.
I remember that if you use Ableton’s sync engine AND Overbridge sync at the same time to an Overbridge device it can cause problems. Maybe Overbridge is still recieving Ableton’s sync?
my experience is similar. Even using the rytms internal sequencer - not clocked by overbridge nor Ableton - results in slightly wobbling recording / time shiftings via overbridge
Hi Naboo,
just remember to turn on “Latency Compensation” in Ableton and turn “reduced Latency Compensation while monitoring” off. This is necessary so that Live can compensate the Latency of Overbridge correctly. I use Live under OSX 10.10 with Overbridge 1.22 and it works fine here. Buffer is set to 128.
