+1 for AAX support.
Thanks.

+1 for AAX support. Yes please.
This would be awesome if it came as a Reason Rack Extension!
Come on give it to me!
ā¦bah, anyhow! Wooho!
I think they are not going to support things besides VST/AU because ProTools is most often used to record rather than compose. Of course it composes as well, but every person I know who uses ProTools is either a non-electronic musician or composes in Ableton/Logic and records into ProTools for its excellent mixing algorithms and interface.
Maybe you could use a wrapper for it?
Well excited by this news. Itāll be savage if the DAW integration extends to the control of the CV tracks. Potentially doing away with the need for (a much more expensive) Expert Sleepers type interface. Great work !
If I had a analog four using overbridge, could I send the midi out or thru to a machinedrum and have my daw, the A4, and the MD all be in sync time wise? or would I still need a innerclock sync-lock to achieve sync.
If overbridge can do this it would be amazingly awesome!
THIS IS A HUGE QUESTION. anyone? smart guesses even?

a smart guess ā¦ may a dumb guess be thrown in the potā¦
Those sync-lock things existā¦ because computers do not send out propper midiclock.
so they great when you want to sync your āwhateverā to āsample acurate midiclockā
as far as i know, they dont speed up midi-notes or make those extra acurateā¦
So my guess isā¦ the midiclock generated by your dawā¦ will be the one send to your elektrongear.
this is not something the oversight will changeā¦
There is movie from those aira thingsā¦ the guy who tests itā¦ does speak a bit about latencyā¦
So if that oversight means midi-notes and CC# and whatever sendā¦ but not midiclock
you may not need a synclockā¦ but if you have multiple drummachines and gear and want really acurate timing in between them
you still doā¦
In all honestyā¦ I really hope I am wrong againā¦ I was wrong with the audio-over-usbā¦ i figured it wasnt possible on any elektron machineā¦ but hmmm I was wrong hoorayā¦
the less āsupportā machines you needā¦ the easier it all is to use and setup and cheaper and foolproof.
+1 for a RE !
Maybe Elektron should think about releasing an earlier beta, get things sped up and release USB audio to willing beta testers
Definitely.
I imagine that bi-directional USB streaming will allow you to use either the DAW or your elektron box as master clock.
the whole issue with audio falling out of sync between DAW/hardware has to do with jitter/latency, which will be less of an issue when youāre directly connected via USB.
Minor start/stop time differences will likely be optimized by Elektron for their vst, so that you will be able to fire it up and start looping recorded/live/sequenced audio in perfect sync right out of the box.
Really excited to see what Elektron has in store for the VST. I can definitely see the potential for being able to automate changes in tempo and start/stop, as well as some finer FX automation and layering.

The Elektron boxes all send pretty solid sync. They work well together and with some other equipment. I havenāt got the A4 the MD or the OT to sync bang on with any DAW as of yet. The problem almost always lies with the computer end of things.
Almost all modern computers are crap at both sending and receiving midi clock. Back in about 1998 I used to use the worst computer ever. I canāt even remember what it was. I bought it second hand for like 50 quid. It was running Windows 3.1 or something like that. I was using a real old version of Cubase way prior to VST and audio support. It only had midi. But it was rock solid for sync. I was running an Akai S2000 and a bunch of other midi drum machines and synths off it. It was bang on. No latency, no skipping, no jitter.
Someone told me it was because the joystick port it was using to send midi was fused to the motherboard and not a separate card or interface like you get nowadays. Not sure if this is true but the proof was in the pudding so to speak. Iāve never had rock solid sync like that with any computer since. The old Atari versions of cubase were the same. Rock solid. The Innerclock systems do it by converting audio from the DAW into midi clock and the Expert Sleepers ES-3 can achieve the same kind of thing.
What Iām getting at is that I would be really surprised if Overbridge managed to do away with midi clock issues related to syncing hardware with DAWs. This problem is as old as the audio interface itself.
Still though, I really hope it does
Sort of the reason why I reject using my computer for anything other than multi track recording
I too had my eye on the Innerclock Sync box but I donāt think Iāll be playing long live sessions or doing any crazy DAW related editing/looping that will require me to purchase one just yet.

supposedly USB can have issues because it sends stuff as packets? http://support.presonus.com/entries/21355765-Should-I-choose-a-FireWire-or-USB-audio-interface-
iāve never really had sync issues, but then i do mostly start/stop sync or record the MIDI into my mpc 1st.
what seems to work for me is using just 1 usb to midi i/o and then plugging that into a MIDI router rather than going USB to MIDI router. im pretty sure going from computer to ā¢-1 (lol autocorrect) to machinedrum to MIDI interface works well or seemed to last time i tried itā¦ so overbridge to the two MIDI outs on the analog4 should be great? the other cool thing is that you can use the analog4ās CV to send tap tempo/click/start/stop to a variety of devices.
iām probably most excited for the CV options with overbridge because it can be hard to manage all of them on one track. i need to work on making a virtual 202 so i can do step time entryā¦
with overbridge would it be much easier saving patches/kits/sounds etc via the daw then instead using sysex c6 dumps ?
+++ for AAX support wanted here as well. I use Pro Tools for writing.
+1 for AAX support also. Would be great to have the option and not have to wrap the VST.
we are in Q4 of 2014 now so hopefully any day now we can get this Overbridge download.
