PC Change, Banks, and Patterns – Octatrack & Analog Keys

Hi lovely people!

I wondering if anyone can help with me changing patterns using PRG CH messages. I have the Analog Keys set up to receive PRG CH. To change patterns I using the Octatrack which is set up to send PRG CH on pattern change. This works fine, except, the Analog Keys doesn’t appear to change banks between A-D and E-H. I am not sure if I need to send other messages as well, there isn’t a great amount of details in the manual. Is anyone else change patterns on an A4 or Keys with the Octatrack.

Thanks in advance!
K.

There should be no problem switching to patterns in any of the AK’s pattern banks under the control of the OT. The Program Change message is the only one that needs to be sent.

One important setting for the current Analog Four pattern is the CHNG parameter in the Advanced Mode in the Scale Menu. This controls when the currently-playing pattern changes to the incoming Program Change message.

Can you give a specific example (pattern numbers) of a change that is not working for you?

Thank you for your reply. I have just checked changing patterns and banks and I think I have found the confusion. You are totally correct, there is no problem changing banks and patterns. The issue is the LED that highlights A-D or E-H doesn’t change, and this was the feedback I was looking at. On the screen, it correctly says which bank and pattern is selected.

The other thing I noticed is Octatrack Banks I - L selects banks A - D and M - P selects banks E - G.

At least I know now where the confusion was. Again thank you for your response.

K.

This is because the MIDI Program Change message only has 128 available values, so after banks A to H (8 x 16 patterns), the value of the PC message sent by the OT begins again at 0 (corresponding to pattern A01 on the receiving instrument).

… ah yes, and potentially very usual for song composition!
