I just spent 10+ mins on Ebay customer service phone call, trying to revive my old account in order to log in and order immediately, I filled out the shipping details and contacts and all that, clicked the order button and hey, they dont ship outside UK
Any UK guys willing to buy this for me and send with UPS, who wouldnt screw me and keep the product after I pay for it from Czechia?
However, thats not worth the hassle. God damn Brexit What did you do lads??! whyyy
It seems the DJS-1000 has a master effect knob that does a few things the Toraiz doesnāt. You can assign one effect to that and take it to town when you go live. Not bad.
Can I use the MC 707 to sequence the Pioneer SP 16 so that I can take advantage of the sound and filters of the SP 16, but use the Sequencer of the Mc 707 ? en how can i dot this?
Yes. You can do it over midi. Each SP track is its own separate channel.
I have the Squid and it works great with the SP. Same principals
Watch this
I actually just rewatched the video and I donāt know how heās playing the whole drum kit on the SP from one track/channel on the Squid.
Hmmm. My Squid sends 1 channel per track and plays each track on the SP chromatically.
Maybe some setting Iām missingā¦
More to learn here.
Some how heās playing kits from the scale page. Curious if anyone knows how heās doing that
I think you need the squid or other device as the same midi channel als the SP -16? He said put an midi cable from out Squid to midi in SP 16. You have 16 channels on the Pioneer and 8 tracks on the MC 707.
It seems to me from my sampler enthusiasm: the sp16 is considered under specced, the S2400 people say is overspecced, but they seem to arrive at similar places though with a very different UI / workflow.
Thatās true, yes. The thing though is on that channel, the samples on the SP play chromatically.
So even if I set different tracks on the SP to the same channel, the Squid would just layer those drums chromatically.
The dude in the video is playing the SP like a drum kit. I canāt figure out how heās doing that unless heās on some other firmwareā¦hmmmmmmm
So I have my Squid hooked up to the SP and as I suspected, I canāt play all 16 pads on the SP from one channel / track on the Squid.
I think the dude is running some different firmware
Wow, if I knew that before I had forgotten it. Thanks
Hereās another thing I think I saw before actually getting one but then never bothered to exploreā¦ different trigger types. This allows for ātrigless locksā type stuff that you can do on Elektron sequencers.
ANOTHER thing that (I think) Iāve figured out on my ownā¦ if you have a trackās LFO modulating volume, and then change the type of wave (say from square to S/H), depth and offset, synced or free-running, per step, you can mimic many of the probability condition effects in Elektron stuff.
I donāt have it in front of me, but when you have a track set up to be in Slice mode, doesnāt it assign each slice to a different midi note? So if you resample all the drum sounds into one āchainā (like people do on the OT etc) and slice them, they should be on one track/channel?
Just an idea.
What I am wondering is: if you can set up ranges for the notesā¦ so one SP track had 16 kicks, the next 16 snares, the next 16 hats, and none of the notes are overlapping each otherā¦ then you could set those to the same midi channel and sequence them polyphonically on just one track of a Squid or Digitone or whatever.
Iāll try that. But I get the sense thereās a setting on the SP that would allow the whole box to receive one midi channel and each track is assigned a chromatic note (like an Ableton Drum Rack).
I may be starting false rumors here but I honestly think Pioneer just demoād some new firmware. The video is only 4 months old. And for the life of me, with both instruments connecting and working, I canāt get the Squid and SP to do talk to each other the way this guy does in the video,
That would be quite odd to showcase functionality in an official demo of unreleased firmwareā¦ but who knows.
And actually, if you watch the video, heās on the TRACK page of the SP, not the slice page. And you can see that just that pad gets triggered on the SP when he hits the corresponding pad on the Squid.
Interesting
I know that you can trigger all 16 pads from the bottom of the midi range on whatever (single) channel is active. But not sure about pitched triggering of multiple pads from one channel
Also I dont think you can access the slices through MIDI either. At least last time I tried I couldnāt.
I really need to brush up on things.
As for firmware, I can only imagine what they have sat on some old computer considering all the effects they originally planned
100% agree. But the way these boxes are set up now, thereās no way to do what heās doing. Iām curiousā¦so I am still searching the web and reading the manuals to try and figure this out.
While youāre researching see if my multi-track-slices-nonoverlapping thing would work too
OK. Figured it out. You have to set the Squid to play from C-1 (C negative 1) to C0
No new firmware.
Yea - Iām hyped on this. I donāt have to use up individual tracks on the Squid for groups of drums. I can lump all my hats together, percussion, etc.
Hooray! Small win on the internet for niche gear only we know or care about
So cool, very useful.
So set to any channel, the first (negative) octave will play all the samples at their root note? Then the rest of the notes above are one trackās sample chromatically? That would super cool if the slice-to-note thing (say the first 16 notes above C1) worked also.
Maybe it sends note data on higher octaves, but Lower midi notes send on different channels? Some sequencers can do that
Edit: I see youāve already figured it out
